Trucking along with FTA requirements!

So, it's been less than a month since we went to the info session with our foster care agency.  We had a huge checklist of things to turn in to them before we can begin our home study.  Here's a snapshot of our checklist.


Purple things have all been submitted, green is "to be submitted" - there are four more single lines of green at the bottom that wouldn't fit in my screen shot.  I've finished those four trainings, but DH hasn't.  He has finished about half of the other green "training" block, and I have all of mine left to do.  White lines are things that require us doing some stuff around the house before taking pictures or scheduling our health inspection.

I feel very good about how much we've accomplished so far!

Wow!!! You've gotten a ton of stuff done and really the to do list isn't big at all. Good luck finishing up the house stuff and the training. I can't imagine getting my husband to complete training that we didn't just do together. That would've been very interesting.

DH is very invested in the process, so it was easy for us. We both have to do all the training, but our schedules just won't allow us to do it together easily.

Our social worker came to the house for the trainings, which made things so much easier. With our schedules it would have been difficult to do trainings that were either a certain evening every week (since sometimes one of us can't get home early), or on the weekends, since occasionally I have to work on the weekend. I am a little jealous about the group trainings though, since some of the discussions are probably more interesting with more people's experience.

That's cool! I do think it is good to have group trainings, partly so you can meet other people who will also be fostering to be a support system later. DH did two three hour evening trainings and will do two all-day Saturdays to finish up. I am doing three all-day sessions to complete my trainings. They also have some weekday morning sessions available, but since I keep DS during the day I couldn't make those (I got all day sitters for the days I'll be in training).

Wow! I'm impressed! We had our orientation meeting back in January and we have done pretty much nothing except begin classes. Then again, our agency requires we attend at least five out of the ten required 3 hour training sessions before they even give us our homestudy paperwork so we don't really know what we need to do.

I do agree with you though about group trainings being a great way to build up a support group for the future. There are three other couples and a single mom in our training group and they are all fantastic people.

Good for you! Isn't it nice to feel like you're making some progress?!
Your process seems to be going a lot faster than ours did. We submitted most of that stuff within the first month of our training, but the classes themselves are what took forever!

I also agree that the group setting is really beneficial. We're required to complete 30 hours of training, so I can't even imagine doing that alone, at our house. It was fun and interesting in a group setting and we did lots of different types of group activities and role playing scenarios, etc. that were probably some of the most beneficial parts of the class and wouldn't have been possible without the classroom setting.
