So, when DD was 8 weeks old (exactly), my DH called and said someone had walked in with a very, very young kitten and said he'd found it outside with no sign of mother or litter mates and could DH help? So DH was trying to figure who to call when the guy dumped the cat on the counter and left. Being a new mother who was very sleep deprived, I immediately said we had to bring it home and take care of it until we could get it to a rescue or something. I couldn't bear to think of that poor motherless cat dying.
Turns out, that kitten could not possibly have been more than a day old. We read up on it, took her in and started hand feeding her. We called every rescue and shelter in the area and the SPCA was the only one who would consider taking it, but they said they couldn't take her until we'd had her for three weeks, because they had hit their rescue limit and could only take pet surrenders. Well, after 3 weeks of hand-feeding a newborn kitten, keeping her warm, and making her pee and poop after every feed, she's your fucking cat.
Well, I love that fucking cat. And tonight she went missing. We could not figure out how she could possibly have gotten out, but we turned our house upside down looking for her. We could not find her anywhere. ANYWHERE. I was sobbing hysterically and DH was trying not to cry and we were trying not to upset our daughter who also loves that fucking cat.
Then suddenly, DH starts laughing and tells me to turn around and that little shit was sitting on the stairs licking her paw like "What's all the fuss?" Little fucker. I still have no idea where she could have possibly been hiding.
