Need advice on timing - update in thread

Hey ladies. I'm going to email my RE about this in the morning, but I thought I'd see if any of you had any words of wisdom or advice. 

The good news is that my cyst is resolving itself and in another week or so I should be able to stop BCPs to try to cycle again. Unfortunately, here's where it gets tricky.

CD1 would likely fall around the first of February. I have no idea if and in what timeframe I'll respond to the letrozole. DH has to be away February 20-22 for military commitments. He'll then be gone March 8-21 and April 16-19 also due to the military. I have no idea what to do. We're 100% OOP for treatments so I'd hate to start something we can't finish. The plan was to do TI since we don't have MFI and IUI is about double the cost at our clinic. We figured we'd save where we can in case we need IVF. 

Anyway, I can't stand the thought of not being able to cycle again until May. It pretty much breaks my heart, but I'm not sure what else to do. I could obviously NTNP for the next three months, but who knows what my cycles will be. 

I'm so frustrated and right now DH is taking the brunt of it even though he has no control over this schedule. This all just sucks. 

Any thoughts?

How did you respond to clomid? I usually O around CD 11 or CD12. On clomid I triggered on CD15 and with femara I triggered on CD11 which is closer to my own O. I would talk to your RE and see if you can work it out to maybe stay a little longer on BC to work out the timing. I know it's a bit more expensive but I do remember someone who's DH was military and they froze a sperm sample to use with an IUI. I don't remember who though. I know it will cost more but if you don't want to wait until May it might be doable.

Looks like chances are good you'd have a pretty good shot in February, and probably April. March not so much.

Given you said it breaks your heart to think about waiting until May...it seems to me like you might already have your answer

I'm probably try for February and see when you O. You should have a shot for then, but maybe not March. How you do in February will help inform your later tries.

bluejoan unfortunately I didn't respond at all to the clomid and that cycle was cancelled. When I do O naturally they're usually around 35 day cycles, which is why I am worried about not O'ing until CD20.

@dancerspose - okay that makes sense. Let us know what the doc says. I'd be pretty interested in the options.

dancerspose How does YH feel about freezing a sperm sample for an IUI for the cycle(s) you pretty much know he won't be around? Modern technology is a beautiful thing (In all seriousness, though, if it's important to you not to NTNP for those cycles, it really might be worth bringing up.)

@dancerspose for the six months I was regular (oh god, it was so long ago since I had a natural cycle) I had 35 day cycles. But on Medicated cycles I had MUCH shorter cycles (I stimmed in 9 days for my ivf cycle) so your cycles may be shorter than you expect.

Glad the cyst is resolving. I also have longer natural cycles, around 35 days. The past few letrozole cycles I didn't O until CD19, BUT my first few it was more like CD14/15. So if this is your first try with letrozole you might O much earlier than usual.

Or the sperm freezing sounds like an interesting option. Keep us updated on what you find out about that.

bluefairy5 I thought about the sperm freezing idea, and I'm sure given how upset I've been lately DH would be willing to try almost anything, but it's more the cost that concerns me. We'd then be paying the storage fees on top of the increased cost of doing IUI instead of TI. Obviously we'll do what we need to. I'll definitely ask them how much it'll cost to do that option.

@ketchup thanks so much! Unfortunately (or fortunately, not sure) we are under civilian insurance. DH is in the National Guard so all of this is that whole 1 weekend a month, 2 weeks a year stuff (although it always ends up being more than that...)

dancerspose I normally have a 32-33 day cycle and O around day 20 but with clomid and trigger I O'd closer to cycle day 15. I would see what the RE says but I think you'll have a shot at February at least.

Update - My RE is actually going to have me stop the BCPs this Friday instead of next week so that we can hopefully start the next cycle a little early and be ok for at least one month. She said since the cyst is now only about 1cm, as long as my estrogen levels are low at the baseline we can go ahead with the cycle. Now the only think I'm a little worried about is getting AF quickly once I come off the pill. It's only been two weeks since my last period because they had me start the pill right after my period started because of the cyst. I'm assuming it'll come like normal, but just be a light flow since I just had one. Any have experience with sort of forcing periods only about two weeks apart?

I don't know much about forcing a period since I've been off BC since 2009 and haven't used it in treatments either. Sounds like a great plan though.
