I'm so sorry you've had to go through this, but I'm so so happy to hear that your LO will be ok. I can only imagine how you must have felt and even that makes my blood run cold. As everyone has said, we're here for you. It will take a while but you guys will all recover from this. Be gentle with yourselves, accidents happen to good people. I'm sorry that CPS will still have to visit your house, of course they're only doing their jobs, but I can really imagine it's hard to stay objective and think of it like that. When my sister was little she got her leg caught in the wheel of her bicycle when she fell off of it and got a spiral fracture. Because these are usually seen in abuse cases my family went through similar questioning. I was too little to remember but I always heard the story. I'm glad your LO is okay and I hope your DD will be too! Did i miss this; how old is she?

Thanks momma. Today we had follow-up with his pediatrician. Aside from being a bit fussy and more clingy with me, he seems to be good. He hasn't shown any signs of a brain bleed or brain swelling and we would have likely seen that by now. He also shows no signs of brain or neurological damage. The two fractures in his skull should heal over the next several months without medical intervention. The actual fractures are even, (think of a crack in the ice), so one side isn't raised higher than the other like a broken arm or leg. These breaks should just fill in and once the lump is gone on his head, no one would suspect that he had fallen. The prognosis for the future is excellent, he shouldn't suffer in any way in the future as a result of the fall. At this point we have been given warning signs of complications, that we have seen none of. There's no reason to not expect a full recovery.

DD is doing ok. There are good moments & bad moments. We've been told by social workers and medical staff to integrate her back into touching and holding DS again. The worst thing that we could do is isolate her in any way from him. She too is struggling emotionally, but we are taking the steps necessary to ensure that she too heals from this event and knows that we love her, her brother is ok, and that no one is upset with her. Our biggest challenge is trying to maintain some normalcy within our daily lives, so that she can heal too. The social worker and her pediatrician recommended counseling. We are going to proceed with that because of this & other issues from the sperm donors house.

DH is good. He wasn't here when it happened, so he came in on the tail end. I'm ok. I've got good moments & bad moments. I think it would be beneficial for me to get counseling because it was pretty traumatic. I see and hear him hitting the ground constantly replayed in my mind over & over. It brings me to tears several times a day. It's hard to be in the kitchen, where it happened. I have an overwhelming sense of guilt for it all. I don't know if I'll ever get over that.

Child protective services will come to our house tomorrow to complete their investigation. I think once that happens, I can exhale a bit. The situation was a nightmare and extremely difficult as is, but having everyone look at me like I was a monster that had done this to my newborn broke me a bit. Thankfully, I've got a mature and articulate child who I've constantly reinforced to be honest & tell the truth & she spoke to the detectives & CPS about what happened. I feel horrible that she had to be in that position and ask questions on whether or not I was abusive to her or DS. We'll get through this....

Thank you for the update Mom2Ms. I hope you and DD do get some counseling and it truly helps you heal.

I can imagine how awful it feels to be questioned like you were by cps but try to remember they didn't necessarily think you were abusive. They have protocol to follow so they can make sure to find those in abusive situations. They probably question just as many, and hopefully many more loving families who had bad accidents than those caused by abuse. It's doesn't make the questions any easier.

He's "good." Continuing to not show any signs of neurological or brain injury, which is really great. He's still more fussy than normal, which really sucks, because when he is like that, he only wants me. So as selfish as it sounds, I don't get a lot of "breaks" these days. The stint in the hospital with the instructions to not feed him in addition to the fussiness, has really thrown off our nursing schedule. Which sucks too. I'm trying so hard to get back on it, but it's a real struggle because sometimes the only way to soothe him is to let him nurse. And with that, comes the snacking, which is what we have been working on not doing since his month old appointment. So, there are times I can't win. So.....we are taking it day by day. I know I can't expect miracles, it's only been a week. But I'm blessed in the fact that this won't Impact him once the fractures heal.....

I've contacted a child psychologist for DD, so that's in the works...
