Please don't quote. I will likely delete.
He was the healthiest of out parents, and the one we worried least about. He was a diabetic, but watched his diet like a hawk and worked a very physical job. His numbers were always great. He was seen around 3 this afternoon, and was cutting the grass. He must have had a heart attack, because there are no injuries. My MIL found him around 6. We are all in shock. I actually asked her if she was kidding me when she called, it was so unexpected.
We just told the boys, because my husband is leaving early tomorrow (to AL) to help make the arrangements. J is pushing it out of his mind and doesn't want to talk or think about it. M said, "He was a good grandpa." He's all sullen and withdrawn. Neither want to talk right now, but I'm sure it will all come out soon. We are thinking of leaving them with my parents for a few days so I can attend the funeral without them. But if M wants to go, I will let him. He's never had closure in his life, he deserves to try to get it this time.
Of course we are in the midst of our move (from NJ to VT). My husband already told his work he's leaving. We already bought the new house. We used most of our liquid savings to buy it in cash and really need to get this house on the market. We we have a meeting scheduled with the realtors tomorrow. I have an interview in VT scheduled for next week. I know there's never a good time, but I really don't think there could have been a worse time.
He was a great man, and fantastic father, a great grandfather, and the best FIL a person could ask for. The world won't be the same.
