Now for something totally off topic, I just made an appointment for my first tattoo. I get inked a week from tomorrow. I'm getting a paper airplane on my right shoulder. It's for the baby we lost to miscarriage. Once we've completed our adoption journey, I will add a second airplane near the first. I plan on having both shaded for the respective birthstones when I add the second one.
Who else has ink? Where is it? Any stories behind it?

I have a trinity knot (representing God, Jesus & the Holy Spirit) tattoo on the inside of my left ankle. DH drew it for me once I decided what I wanted, and I got it a few weeks after I turned 18. I really want to get a sugar skull tattoo in full color somewhere, and possibly a scriptural or hymnal one on my forearm/wrist.

I love that theatrepal, What a beautiful idea! Please post pics when you get it done (if you feel comfortable!). I have been pinning a bunch of tattoo ideas on my pinterest for when our family is complete. I have been wanting to get another tattoo for many years, but knew I was waiting for something. I found some really neat ideas with the adoption theme, one in particular includes family trees where the roots intertwine. Good luck!

That's realy beautiful. I was trying to think of something to represent the 2 miscarriages we went through.
I have 4 tattoos now. My anniversary in roman numerals on my foot, mine and my sisters initals on my wrist, a lotus on my hip, and my favorite just-turned-18 butterfly on my lower back.
Awww, what a lovely idea! I want so badly to get a tattoo to commemorate my losses but can't come up with what I want drawn.
I have a bunch already: lyrics across my hips from a favorite song, Japanese cherry blossoms on a forearm representing transiency of life, giraffe on my side to commemorate a trip to Africa, the state of NJ and "bruce" in a mom-style heart for my home state obsession and springsteen love, and "hope" on my wrist in memory of my mother who passed from breast cancer, plus "always" written on my back in an unfinished piece referencing her too. MH and I are actually going to get matching fisherman knot tattoos for our first anniversary this weekend. Obviously i am addicted!
I have had an aunt who I was very close to pass away when I was 17. She loved frogs. One of my friends gave me a small ceramic frog after she passed...as soon as I turned 18 I went and got a tattoo of the ceramic frog in her honor.
I love those ideas! I have 2 currently. The first one is a Celtic cross on my lower back. My best friend drew it for me and then went with to laugh at my pain getting it done. The other one I just got over the summer w/ my sister.. It's 2 arrows crossing with compass directions on the side of our heel. She got an "A" in place of the "N" and I got a "J" in place of the "S". It represents where we live in relationship to each other. I'm trying to figure out what my next one will be.
theatrepal, I would highly recommend Gabe at Acme tattoo if you haven't already picked a place. He has done both of mine.
If I ever get one I'd get "malyutka" which means little one, written in Russian on my ribs to represent that while ds didn't grow in me, he's still a part of me. It's what we called him when we first brought him home and still do sometimes.
Little Slick - fell in love 6/26/12, a forever family 11/26/12, finally home 12/6/12! The moment I really became a mama: mrs-slick.blogspot.com/2013/01/mama.html
These sound great! I have my last name in Korean Hangul on my right shoulder blade. It also happens to mean "strong" and that has been my mantra a while. I love it dearly.
I thought about getting something to represent A for a while but I feel like my many and huge stretch marks are my ode to her. I plan to get all of my future childrens' Korean names under it in Hangul. I'd also love to get a quote on my ribcage and my life verse scripture reference in white on my wrist. I doubt I'll do more than the kids' names, though.
I had a post, but apparently it got eaten. When I was 15, I got a ridiculous tattoo on my back. I didn't even like it in the beginning, but I figure that at least back there I don't have to look at it. I do have a piece in mind for my 2 kids, but I keep chickening out. I have it seared in my brain how painful it was last time and I can't quite bring myself to go through with it. Maybe someday.
I have a bunch, and have my next one picked out! My 1st is about the size of a quarter, I got it the day I turned 18. It is a ladybug, that was used to cover a dog bite on my ankle. I have cross that says Jesus on the other, that is the one that I wish I had drawn for me, rather than picking someone else's vision. A breast cancer ribbon on the back of my neck, under my hairline. A Celtic friendship symbol with my wife and 3 friends right below my collar bone. A lavender (for all cancer) ribbon that says strength, hope, love. An infinity sign that says "Dad, you'll be with my wherever I go" within the line.
I am supposed to get matching ones with my sisters, but I know that my next one is going to be a black cross with the word hope attached to it with a heart coming off of the letter E. Faith, hope, love... I am thinking I will get that one on the outside of my lower arm by the elbow.

I have 2 tattoos so far. One is on my left wrist, a chinese symbol meaning dream and the other is a sister tattoo that is 2 hearts on the top of my right foot. I want to get more, but I always chicken out as well. The 2 I have are pretty small, and I'd like "Love is patient, love is kind" on my ribcage but, I've heard it really hurts there. LOL! My husband just told me last night I should get a Mom tattoo, but we're still in the process of adopting baby #1 with plans on adopting another in the future, so I'd like to wait until our family is complete before doing that. But, I thought it was sweet of him to think of that.
DH and I have tattoo wedding bands on our fingers instead of traditional wedding rings. I have a small yellow butterfly on the back of my right hip which is in honor of two very important relatives I have lost. After each of them passed (almost a decade apart from each other) I was pretty much swarmed by yellow butterflies for a full month. I saw 10+ each day. It's become a symbol for me that those I love are still very much present in my life and watching over me.
This summer I hope to get my third: Mine and DH's birth flowers on my thigh/hip area. Once we add to our family and things are finalized I will add the kids' birth month flower/flowers. It's going to be in a Victorian/vintage floral card style. I can't wait!
Look!!! For the baby we lost to miscarriage. I love it. It didn't hurt much at all to have done and the irritation from the tape is worse than that tattoo this morning. I'm so happy I got it done.

I have 2 that have adoption/infertility meaning. I have a sea turtle in my foot as it represents the long journey, courage and strength. I also have a dandelion being blown that turns into sparrows on my back. This one respresnts wishes, dreams and new beginnings to me.
I have a little pink spaceship on my lower left arm which was suppose to have an X-Files quote under it but the guy didn't have his fonts with him at the time and I just never bothered to get it finished. Eventually I will, along with several more tattoos.

Ooh, I can add that I'm getting a vintage style heart tattoo with B's name in the banner, and larkspur on either side (both of our birth month flower, plus symbolizes "first love". My appointment is next Saturday!
