Not sure if these are the Playtex ones you use, but they're working really well for us. I like them because they hold 8-9 ounces at a time, and J has been drinking lots of milk at breakfast and dinner. We also use it for water throughout the day and don't have to refill it as often since it holds a decent amount. And no matter how many times he throws them around, they don't leak. The one leak that happens is when I first fill it with milk - if I fill it to the top the pressure of the milk inside the cup forces it through the straw, so a few drops might come out before J starts drinking. But to me that's NBD, and definitely my fault for overfilling it.

Hmm, that's good to know about the cups you're using jnetx. We've been using them for about 5-6 months without an issue, but I'll definitely keep an eye out for more leaking.

salemkitty - Is that one fairly easy to use? I thought about trying those but it said they were for 18 months and up so I worried there might be something different about them. E has no issues using a straw though.

zoly1103 He learned on take and toss and then moved to those. I'd imagine they are harder than the other type but not so hard that DS can not do it.

How did you teach your LO to drink from a straw?

I starting using restuarants straws, dipping into water with my finger covering one side. Then I would put the other side of the straw in DS mouth and move my finger so the water would go into his mouth. After a few times he started closing his mouth around the straw. Then I would delay moving my finger so we would try to suck water out and then I'd release it. Once he could do this I used Apple juice boxes. He'd put his mouth on it and I could squeeze a little to make sure he got juice. He quickly learned to get juice. That's when I moved to the take n toss cups. I would hold it and he could drink out of it. Once he became good at it we moved to the thermos.

Would you know that yesterday was the first time my LO drank from a straw? It had to be Jimmy John's lemonade too. Boy did she pucker up!
