GTKY: The Cravings and Aversions Edition

Despite the nausea, I still find myself gravitating toward certain things (that aren't always crackers) and really avoiding others.  So I am curious, what food do you have to have right now (or all the time)! Or what can you just not even stand to think about?

Cravings: I seem to be a case study in all things stereotypical - citrus (found myself wanting grapefruit - I don't even like grapefruit), brined items (pickles, olives, banana peppers), sweet potato fries, and spicy food. I also randomly bought chocolate graham crackers today - wth?

Aversions: raw chicken, raw eggs, white wine, and deli meats.

meredithcarole, I practically lived on grapefruit when I was pregnant with DS!

Cravings: Not much yet, although I was craving Popeye's chicken yesterday...guess what I had for lunch today? I was also in the mood for fruity popsicles yesterday, so I stopped and bought a box of those on the way home from Popeye's!

Aversions: Anything with a strong smell. DH's sausage breakfast sandwich really turned my stomach yesterday morning!

I'm feeling great about all things food.

Cravings: Pickled Veggies... specifically Pickled Snap Peas and Marinaded Beets. I'm also hungry for sandwiches. I don't usually eat sandwiches, but they have been really good lately.

Aversions: None really... praying it stays that way. Me and food are tight yo!!

Cravings: Pineapple (I think I could eat a whole one in one sitting), pickles, pretty much all types of berries, and mango sorbet right now which we're going to get between periods of this hockey game!

Aversions: coffee...can't even stand the smell of it, salsa (which I ate in mass quantities before pregnancy), sushi (again, loved sushi so much before pregnancy and now can't think about without gagging)

Cravings: pickles, salsa from a particular restaurant (got some today and ate the entire container in one sitting. It was SO GOOD). Meat, apparently. That is the main thing that settles my nausea - a huge influx of protein.  Oh, and fountain cokes.  I only ever want them when I am pregnant and nauseated.

Aversions: sweets, apparently whatever has been cooked for dinner, even if I suggested it.  Iced coffee - I usually love it and especially enjoy the weekly trip to Dunkin Donuts for a hazelnut iced coffee, but they taste off and gross right now.  So sad.

Cravings- ALL THE CARBS!!! Carbs, salt, and grease. Pasta, pizza, breakfast sandwiches.

Aversions- Nothing much yet. If I'm super nauseous I find myself snubbing my nose at coffee, which is so unlike me. I can drink a whole pot of black by myself in like an hour usually. Sadness. I heart coffee.

I think maybe I haven't completely reached this phase yet as I don't have an specific/weird cravings...Cold, fruity, and sour stuff is appealing to me these days. I am usually a cheese fiend, but that hasn't really been yummy sounding lately and my normal oatmeal in the morning is grossing me out.

DH picked up my favorite meatball sub last night for dinner, and I ended up throughing it away, so gross.

My only cravings are for fluids, I'm always parched and wanting something ice cold.

I don't have a ton of cravings yet- but reading all the descriptions of pickled things made my mouth salivate. I think I need to go eat pickles ASAP. Even when not preggers I can eat almost an entire bag of salt and vinegar chips if I dint stop myself!

I can't stand the thought of chicken right now; that happened to me my last pregnancy too.

Chicken is really grossing me out lately, too!


All I want is spicy food. I am usually such a baby about hot stuff, but it's all that sits well with me.  I have been eating a lot of toast and crackers, but more out of necessity than actually craving it.

Also, I opened up a chobani key lime greek yogurt yesterday and literally almost vomitted.  It was by far the worst thing I've ever smelled (and I'm an ICU nurse so I feel like this is saying a lot).  I handed it to my husband to smell and he said it was fine and proceded it eat the whole thing.  I was horrified.

Cravings: I have eaten my fair share of steamed broccoli lately. I'm feeling the pull of carbs and cheese, which I lived on when pg with DS.

Adversions: the people downstairs cooked stinky fish. Barf. I'm not very excited about sweets including fruit.

So when I was around 40w3d with DS, DH read that eating pineapple can induce labor.  I was overdue and over it, so I let him buy me a fresh pineapple just in case there was some truth to that particular old wives tale.  He cut it up and put the pieces in a bowl in front of me while I was watching tv. I started mindlessly popping pieces into my mouth, and without realizing it, I ate the entire pineapple! I won't go into detail about the consequences of that, but let's just say they involved lots of time in the bathroom that night, but no time at the hospital!

Cravings: I hardly ever want to eat but when I do it's fruit or carbs. Sometimes cheese (melted only)

Aversions: all meat, chicken, and seafood. Anything spicy (I used to live on Chipotle....can't stand the thought of it now). I never want ice cream and used to want it constantly.

As far as aversions: anything with a strong smell makes me nauseous. The worst one was the smell of microwaved fried rice MH was eating (gag). Also on this list: salsa, hot sauce, anything delicious.

I'm still pretty early so no real cravings and I never had aversions with DD so not really expecting any this time. Like Unknown I am always thirsty and I have had a decrease in appetite.

Cravings: oranges and radishes (yes, together), pita bread, spaghetti, hot chocolate with whipped cream

Aversions: coffee, berries, tap water, salami. Also, the salsa that came with my breakfast burrito this morning smelled so strong and garlicky I had DH get up and throw it away.

Thankfully I have been able to remove myself from the offensive sights before it has been an issue so far

Cravings: Boiled eggs, raw kale in salads, juice, citrus. This is strange for me because last go-around salads were an aversion and I craved pineapple.

Aversions: A lot (but not all) sweet stuff, like candy bars. Strong lemony desserts, any very strong flavors including strong coffee.

I was attempting a modified paleo diet before my BFP: no dairy, soy or gluten. I did pretty good, too. Now all I want is a turkey sub (boo bc it's off limits unless I get a hot one) and cheese. I've always loved cheese but haven't really eaten it for 6months. Now I.cant.stop.

Also craving cold water, which is out of character.

Aversions: anything I think about for longer than 2minutes. Unfortunately that includes peanut butter which was my go to at first. It seems that coffee is slipping into this category too. Gives me the sads.

Edit: I'm also highly susceptible to suggestive cravings so reading this thread has done a number on me!

aswedishbee, I am also susceptible to suggestive cravings. Half the things someone mentions I immediately go ZOMGINEEDTHATNOW. Also, I've totally had turkey subs since getting pregnant. I just make sure I get them from Wegmans where they use fresh, cooked deli meat that they make and carve on site. None of that nasty ass subway shit or anything questionable. I worked there in college and I'm not convinced the meat there is real.

Not having a lot of extremes yet:

Cravings: Not sure, not like my normal sugary cravings. It is more about what seems like it will sit well on my stomach. It's more like I am turned off of food though guacamole has me happy and dairy. I am all about cheese right now. And soft bread.

Aversions: the smell of roasted chicken, that has really turned my stomach. I don't eat meat anyway, so nothing else seems to be impacted just by smell. Yesterday the salad I made for dinner was a no go, brought it for lunch and going to give it a try. And ginger is now starting to turn my stomach. Ugh, that is so not helpful.
