Boooo, I'm sorry. No experience yet, but I am irrationally terrified of gestational diabetes since DM2 in average weight adults already runs in my family. I understand how you'd feel disappointed and may be the one coming to YOU for advice after my glucose test in a few weeks.
@feegan, don't know yet... I passed my first GTT at 24 weeks, my OB does 2 with twins. Had it this morning. Waiting for results. Type 2 diabetes runs in my family so I'm a nervous nellie too about GD. Meet with the nutrionist...they will take good care of you!
I had GD with both my twin pregnancy and my singleton pregnancy. I am normally borderline diabetic anyways so I wasn't surprised that I failed my GTT. I was able to control my glucose through diet though so no medication was needed. I just had to check my glucose four times a day. Fasting in the morning and then one hour after meals. I met with a dietitian and she said I could eat sweets/carbs in moderation as long as I paired it with enough protein to buffer the glucose spike. It takes a little bit of trial and error to see how your body responds but overall I found it manageable. Frustrating but manageable. I also attribute the GD to not gaining a lot more weight than I did since I couldn't eat all the stuff I was craving third tri. Feel free to ask me anything if you have questions or need ideas for what to eat.
