I am throwing this out there. It may be a complete flop, but worth a shot to get things flowing...

I know people sometimes don't want to start a thread for something they think is too insignificant or whatever, so all those little questions, thoughts, etc. that you have considered putting out there but hesitate to start a thread for, post them here.

Here's a random question....how many stay at home moms does it take to change a flat tire?

Apparently more than two. I was meeting a friend at the mall and got a flat. I called my friend to let her know we'd be late, and she offered to swing by and help since I have never changed a flat tire before. A super nice guy pulls up behind me and offers to help and we realize I don't have a wrench to take my tire off. He tried his and it was too big, so he offered to run to autozone and grab one. My friend shows up before he leaves and hers fit...and the nice guy changed my tire. I still have never changed my tire, and when my husband gets home we are going to buy a new tire...and fix the no wrench problem.

forevermorgan Your dad may be on to something... I wonder if Geico has something similar to All State. My husband told me to call a tow truck if we couldn't change it... but I don't know how well that would have worked since I had DD in her car seat.

@auri, you could have called a tow truck, not to actually have someone tow you but just called the mechanic to come (likely in the tow truck because it hauls some tools) and change the flat on site - make sure to let them know that on the phone as some may have policies against it.

Also, I grew up in an auto shop, so I absolutely know *how* to change a tire, but being *physically able* is a different story because although I am strong for my size, me jumping on the darn thing doesn't even typically provide enough torque to break the lug nuts free. It is not at all uncommon for anyone, not just women or people with limit vehicle knowledge or whatever other stereotype, to not be able to change a tire. I need to be at home so I can use the air compressor unless I happen to have a piece of pipe strong enough, long enough, and of useful diameter to use as an extension to get more torque from less force (this is not outside the realm of possibility for me but not highly likely either - I can't say this example is not based on a lucky but real event). Also, I have learned to check what comes in the factory kit; I had the factory jack (the "correct" one as intended) in my old vehicle that didn't account for the optional suspension package upgrade so it would only have worked on the standard model even though the suspension was a factory option (and a common one). So many factors can be working against a person trying to change a tire, knowledge of the task is usually the least of the possible issues.

Basically this. DH and I were just discussing changing tires recently, though I can't remember why. I absolutely know how to do it, as my dad wanted to make sure I wouldn't be a damsel in distress. But I can't physically do it. At least you got a nice guy to help you. I've wound up with some drunk dude who doesn't even actually know how to do it trying to assist me, and I had to say "no, that isn't where you put the jack. You can't just turn the lug nuts in any order. I really just need some help turning the lug wrench; I'll take it from here. No really, I'll take it from here."

My escape game with this "gorilla tool" thing which DH told me is to remove the lug nuts. Not that it would help me in any way in a flat tire situation. I'm hopeless when it comes to anything with cars.

@mommatotwo You just need to change the type of signature you grabbed. Go to Lilypie and create a ticker. Above the box with the code there should be a line that's bold and says Forum signatures. Click on the one that says EZboard and put that as your siggy and it should work

Okay vent: My LO had a bad night (for him) last night. He usually STTN, but he was up at 1 and then up for the day at 4. It is almost 730 and he is still happily playing. I am always the one that gets up because I SAH, and when my DH came downstairs this morning he suggested I just take a nap! I can't believe he really thinks I have the ability to do that; when does he think that all the things for our household get done? When LO naps, and that is becoming less frequently as he grows. Sometimes I wonder if anyone I know in real life understands what I do

Ugh sorry tomorrow, that's frustrating

If I hear one more time "staying home is hard because you get bored...", I might lose my mind. Bored? I WISH. Between drop off and pickup for my oldest child, all the laundry, housework, meal prep and cleanup, child care and errands, school projects and homework, not to mention *maybe* some time to sit and do puzzles or something with DD, I'm busier than I ever was. I have projects I want to do that keep getting put to the backburner and the only downtime I get is after 830 when the kids are in bed. That downtime includes taking my own shower. So really after 9ish. I'm up at 6, so I get like, an hour.

Definitely not complaining, this is what I wanted, but I am just trying to grasp this notion people have that I'm bored!

I understand completely. We got a new puppy over the weekend and 2 nights ago he woke up at 530 and needed to go out. Puppy and I fell back asleep but DH did not before regular wake up time. And then he said "it's ironic you fell back to sleep since you can nap during the day". You mean when I'm taking care of a 4 yo, 2 yo, and a puppy? Like they're all going to just hang out and let me sleep whenever? On top of that I'm 30 weeks pregnant so yeah I do need extra sleep. He's gone for 9.5 hours and I honestly think he thinks everyone just pauses till he gets home.

I'm sorry tomorrowisanotherday. I know that is frustrating, my husband has told me the same thing before. I don't know if you have a lot that really does need to get done today, but maybe you can take a nap when he does. I've had to do that when DD would have bad nights...the housework will be there tomorrow.

DH is usually really supportive and understanding of what I do (I've left him many times to handle things while I went off somewhere for a few hours/a day), but I've had others who just didn't get it. I hate "What do you mean you can't come shopping with me spontaneously this afternoon? Can't your kids just nap later/in the stroller?" (or whatever activity at whatever time) Nope, sorry, we have a routine for a reason. If you'd like to get together, we'll have to work within the routine.

I also hate when people assume I think less of them for working just because I SAH. Nope, I have a ton of respect for you because I know from experience how hard it is. I just made the choice that was best for my family at the time.
