Lurker from Aug 15 but thought you fine ladies might want to know that for today Amazon is running a deal on the Silhouette Cameo Electronic Cutting Machine Starter Bundle. It's Listing at $199.99!
TTC since Sept 2012 M/C on 5/01/13 at 8 wks AF finally appeared 11 wks later per Provera Diagnosed with PCOS on 7/29/13 Three Failed Medicated Cycles, NTNP Indefinitely BFP #2 9/14/14, EDD 5/23/15...MMC discovered @ 9w2d; D&C 10/23/14 ***BFP #3 7/4/15, LO born 3/17/16***
I love my Cameo- it's awesome! I paid less than that (a few years ago), but, I didn't get the pens, extra mat, or extra blade- so I agree that this is a pretty good deal!
Thanks for sharing. I was kicking myself for not grabbing the one I saw on clearance for $179.99 the other day, but with the extras, this would be a better deal. MH may be getting an early birthday gift for me that he just doesn't know about yet. *Disclaimer: No, I am not telling him, "Hey. I bought my own gift, so go wrap it for me so I can act surprised." MH and I don't actually buy each other gifts. We just joke about gifts such as when he bought a motor to tinker with just before our anniversary, I told him "Happy Anniversary!" as he was buying it, to which he replied, "Thanks! What did I get you?" (my response was, "You got me a couple of casual necklaces last week. Thanks by the way.").*
I have 11 hours to decide if I'll use it enough to warrant buying it.
You know I don't scrapbook and I'm not a "card maker" (sure, I've made cards, but, you know what I mean), but, I use it plenty. It's really been handy now that DS is in public school with special projects and that sort of crap.
But, I still have lots of fun with it in other ways!

I've got the Cameo and the software upgrade card in my cart. I'm just trying to make sure I'm not being too impulsive. I've gone back and forth about whether or not I need one for a long time, always deciding I don't. I don't scrapbook or make cards, but I might cut vinyl decals and use it for glass etching. I would 100% use it to cut fabric and heat transfers. I guess I'm just worried that the learning curve and the extras I might need will feel overwhelming.

I'd already told my mom I wanted this for Xmas this year so I shared the link on her FB page.
My H has no ability to keep secrets so when he buys a bday or Xmas gift he always shows it to me or blabs what it is right after he buys it, which is typically weeks before said holiday. But he then refuses to give it to me until the holiday.

Design Edition is supposed to be pretty good- you could also think about a third party software program (Make the Cut or Sure Cuts a Lot are the biggies) instead, but, I think DE is the cheapest. Cuts are my biggest expense, I don't do a lot of my own designing these days, I should get back into it. But, even then, I buy subscriptions when they're on sale- they may have just ended one, but, your download card will probably get you by for awhile. I spend ~$85 a year for $300 worth of cuts, and I buy a lot of the cuts on sale, too. They also have freebies once a week.
Blades are pretty cheap on Amazon (at least sometimes, I usually pay $5-6 for one- and don't go through them very fast, I'm pretty sure I haven't changed one out yet!) and you can use other mats (I go with whatever's cheapest- just beware of bounding limitations being different).
I use cheap vinyl contact paper to make stencils for paint masking, screen printing (pop it on a screen and I can get at least a few runs before it starts to give up), and stuff like that. Heat transfer vinyl is a lot of fun, I haven't actually used mine for fabric cutting yet (I find that doing die cutting on fabric is pretty wasteful and I like the efficient use of fabric I can get with scissors- ha), but, I've seen it done well! I use it to cut freezer paper for sun printing and "freezer paper painting" on fabric. I have a stamp material kit I haven't touched yet and some printable magnet sheets to use. I love using it to decorate the kids' rooms for the holidays, though- I've printed up dozens of bunnies, bats, hearts, flowers and leaves over the years- little bits of command stickies hold them up great.
Now, they have had some big issues with the non Design Edition Studio software- I run a really old version (2.84, IRRC) and have no problems, but, I do recommend having another option. I love Make the Cut, but, Sure Cuts a Lot has an interesting new update and DE does generally get good reviews for ease of use and features.
It seriously does rock to be able to slap out some card stock gorillas when your kid comes home with a short turn around diorama, though.

That would drive me absolutely bonkers. I wouldn't care if he told me as long as he let me have it then, but otherwise, don't freaking tell me.
One year, I did need a new stand mixer urgently (mine started smoking when I was trialing a new flavor of cake as a test run for LO's birthday cake), so I told my mom, "Hey; the one I want is on sale right now at [whatever store]. By the way, can I use it one time before Christmas so I can make LO's birthday cake, then I'll give it back to you to wrap up for under the tree?" She was nice enough to make an exception for that as usually she wouldn't confirm that she got that item or not and certainly wouldn't let us use it.
Thanks cmeon. I just placed my order! I got the designer software too. It was only $22, so I figured it was worth it. It should get here Friday, so hopefully I'll get a chance to play with it a bit this weekend.

Oh it does. I tell him constantly not to tell me, but it never works. He always has a "reason" why he has to tell me. Like for this past Xmas he bought me a new rifle (a week before T-giving) and apparently there was a 3 day return limit. It's not like it was a last minute purchase; why he couldn't have sneakily asked me if that was something I wanted before he bought it I do not know.
I guess he gets too excited and can't keep it a secret. IDK

cmeon - By "cheap vinyl contact paper" do mean just regular, non-branded stuff? I already have a roll of this. Do you think it would work for glass etching stencils? I'm guessing I'd still need transfer tape?
Do you have a recommended brand of vinyl? The reviews for the Silhouette brand say their new version sucks.
MadApple, yep- the stuff you can get for $5 a roll at Target? That you can cover shelves/books with? That! LOL It has a pretty good seal on smoothish things, it would definitely be worth a shot, but, test it on something cheap/replaceable first.
There are cheap workarounds for transfer tape- clear contact paper (Dollar Tree carries it from time to time!) is popular!
I like Oracel 631 is pretty much the standard for general purpose vinyl- you can get it lots of places by the cut, but, it's also what's sold under Cricut's name (it's expensive this way).
I like these guys- I've had good experiences with them in the past, and they have pretty much every type of vinyl you could ever need!

MH would probably not go the subtle route if there was a limited return window. What kind of rifle did you get? I have been wanting one, but I go back and forth on what I want. Considering I usually have a hard time coming up with a list of stuff I need/want, I sure do have a mile long list lately.
I admit I do get excited when I find that perfect gift I know the recipient will absolutely love (I especially love shopping for my mom because I can usually find something I know she will be head over heals for). I have to really fight the urge to tell/give early. I don't outright tell, but I do occasionally over-hint. One year my mom wanted a new tool set. I found an amazing deal that allowed me to get her a much nicer set within my rough budget, and I got a set for myself too. I accidentally told her about my new set, which made it obvious I had looked at them for her. I still managed to surprise her though by opening her set, taking out one wrench, and wrapping it in a small box (hiding the rest behind the sofa to pull out after she opened the wrench). Handing her the box which was clearly too small for any tool set, she said something along the lines of, 'I thought for sure I knew what you had gotten me, but this certainly can't be it.' We all got a big laugh after she realized she actually had gotten a tool set.
cam, he got me a savage 22-250 mostly to use as a varmint/coyote gun. I have a Remington 7mm-08 for deer hunting that I love, but it's a bit overkill (no pun intended) for coyotes. I'd love to have a Browning 308.
Now if I could just convince him I need a Leupold VX 2 (or 3) scope for my 7mm-08 I'd be in heaven.
It's hard to find the right rifle especially for a woman bc most guns are designed/built to fit a man so it's definitely important to do your homework and handle a gun to see how it feels. Weight and length are such important factors to take into account. In a perfect world, my 7mm-08 would be ~1/4" shorter but that's getting super nit-picky. The Browning 308 fit perfectly, but I couldn't afford it at that time. What are you wanting a rifle for?

We had always planned to get a .22 of some sort because, growing up, that was always the one everyone had for anything from just shooting some targets to a random problematic smaller animal. It was always so cheap to shoot, but good grief has that changed the past couple of years, so it is likely getting bumped down the priority list. I also grew up in a shot gun only deer hunting zone, but that has somewhat recently changed to allow rifles, so something for that got added to the list of wants. It would be nice to get some venison in the freezer as it has been ages, and we are able to take care of coyotes if needed, so I think the deer hunting purpose will probably win out. I think in the end, we will likely get a .308 as our next purchase as we said definitely a rifle needs to come next and it seems like the .308 would be the most useful while still being somewhat reasonable to shoot in terms of ammo price and availability (not sure where you live, but stores around here had so many bare shelves for certain types for such a long time). The big problem though is, like you said, sizing. It doesn't help that MH has long arms so that really makes us almost need two of anything we get (in terms of rifles and shot guns at least) - youth models often are better fits for me. Haven't really started narrowing down too much beyond that yet.
