Ok I can't get an answer from anybody locally. Sarah and I were married when twins were born but my name wasn't allowed on birth certificate because "forms hadn't been updated" even though I crossed out the Dad stuff. We live in North Carolina. What do I need to do to make my name appear on that little oh so important piece of paper? Anybody else in NC...what was your experience?
I am not in NC, but the same thing happened to us in PA. We did a second parent adoption (which we were planning to do anyway for full protection in all 50 states and internationally), and we will be issued a new birth certificate by the state. It still hasn't come yet, and the adoption was finalized in November 2014. They say 6 months is average to get the new birth certificate. We went through an LGBT lawyer locally who specializes in this type of work.

I am not from NC either, so I will second the posts about contacting a lawyer, however in Indiana, we are also married and crossing out the forms would not matter. I have to do a step-parent adoption to get my name on the BC.
