DD and I have to go to the post office to mail my mom her Mother's Day present. It didn't come until yesterday so now she'll get it four days late. After that we're going to Story Time and the park. When DD naps I'm going to work on getting the guest list for her 2nd birthday party together and pinning a few more things for her theme. I changed it from Elmo to Watermelon. Watermelon is a much better theme for an outdoor party.

I'm just having an overall bad day and everyone is irritating me. DD is 14 months and absolutely will not nap in her crib. I will add, she sleeps in it just fine at night and goes aboit 11 hours. She will only nap on us though, or in the stroller or car seat if we are out. Everyone apparently as an opinion on it because my husband has been discussing it with them and now apparently I'm the bad guy. Since my husband is out of solutions he told me to just fix it.
One person told him to have me put her in there and just go sit out back and let her cry for 2 hours if I have to because that will work and teach her.
I totally forgot the send in my kids books for their teachers to sign. Their last day of school is next Wednesday. The teachers are going to hate me! Hopefully I can track down my oldest daughters teacher while the class is in library, if they even go to library today.
penguin129, I love planning parties. I liked being able to start planning LO's way in advance in the past, but this year, I feel like I need to wait until closer to his birthday to start as he could have a strong opinion about what he wants. Last year, I did let him pick the theme from a handful I thought he would like and asked him about several months in advance. Turning four this year, I don't know how far in advance I can ask without risking a 180. I already have a few possible ideas, but we are still five months out. The one theme idea would lend itself to a really awesome cake, so I kind of hope he picks that theme, but I have some good ideas for some of the others too. I just can't wait to be able to start planning and designing/making stuff.
Exhausted today. LO is definitely back to waking up every two hours round the clock and had two poopsplosions last night. My husband's boss's wife is dropping by the house later and I need to get this filthy house looking decent before then. Kinda hard to do when my baby cries every time I set him down!
Sorry for whining. I hope everyone has a great Tuesday afternoon!
You have a one month old, don't be too hard on yourself or your house. If she has kids she'll be impressed if you offer her coffee, and remember to actually bring it to her once it's made.

penguin129, we did a watermelon party for DD's first birthday last summer. It was a blast! I actually may still have some of the party decor if you're interested.

honeylemon Yay for your Scentsy order! Not yay for everything else. DH got a $160 speeding ticket this morning, now I feel a little bit better about that after seeing how much your H's car work is going to be. I'm actually looking for Watermelon paper plates. I think 16 would do. I want to cut them in half and glue sticks on the back to make fans. I'm planning on starting to shop for supplies later this week to give myself enough time.

honeylemon, That looks really cute! The cookies look like they were yummy! Also, I'm sorry about your husbands car.
We've had a busy day today. Had to take the dog to the vet for his annual check-up. Then DD and I met up with our BFFs at a museum. Unfortunately we didn't stay as long as we wanted to. The ac was broken so it was really hot, and the girls favorite exhibit (a hand carved mechanical circus) is being worked on. I think they are trying to fix or restore the gears so that it can move again. My friend said it used to work when she was a kid, but I've only ever seen it stationary.

I have been really lazy about getting DS out of the house lately. It has been raining a ton lately, so that can be my excuse.
We are getting close to finished with all of our paperwork and training for foster care licensing. Still have a few things left, but then hopefully we can get our home study done.
We are not having a big party for DS's 2nd birthday. Just some cupcakes and maybe grilling out with family only.
DH is getting a 5% raise, which I'm grateful for, since I just started going to counseling and it was going to be hard on the budget.
I really wish I had 2 washers and dryers. I feel like I'm constantly doing laundry, and if I'm not actively paying attention to it it starts to get out of control. And that's with just one kid!
I had a lot to say today, apparently. I should hang out here more often.

gnomesweetgnome Congrats to your DH for getting a raise. Our party is only family too. The problem is DH has 2 sisters and 2 brothers so parties get big fast especially when you include our nieces, nephews, and cousins. You should come here more. I think we have a few July 13 moms on this board and it is more active here than our actual BMB.

penguin129, yeah, DH only has one sibling and he and his family never travel here for anything. Summers are especially hard since he's been working as a youth pastor and they have tons of trips. That may decrease now that he's taken on a new role at the church. MIL might come, and I'm hoping we can get my sister out here from L.A. Otherwise it'll just be us, my mom, and my stepdad!
Both kids seem to feel good today and I got the call from my doctor that I'm immune to fifths disease so that's a relief. We are out on the swing set and I'm sort of cold. We've had 80+ temps the past week and today is upper 60s and windy. I feel like such a wimp!

honeylemon You decorations look great! I am going to alternate green and pink balloons with white polka dots on twine. I'm going to do pink and green plate and table cloths and maybe the Watermelon paper plate fans. I don't want to overdo it. I did a whole lot last year. I'm trying not to do as much this time. I think since it is outside there is less to decorate which is a plus!

I do a lot of little touches so it looks like everything is pulled together but most of it takes little to no effort. For example, the food has to go in something either way, so it is not really much more work to dump a bag of chips in a dump truck instead of a bowl other than getting a yellow (to blend in with the truck) napkin from the drawer and lay it in first so it is a little more food appropriate; ta da, decorations to go with the construction theme we had done. A little toy pig sitting in the mud colored fruit dip (a caramel chocolate dip) ties in with the farm theme another year. His 3rd birthday was the only one I actually constructed anything (not counting the cake because I make that every year).
I swear I have seen watermelon plates before, maybe even platters too. If you are just making fans with some of the plates (so not eating of them), you could easily take a pink plate and paint the rind and seeds on if you wanted. Also, if you serve watermelon (or even just eat watermelon at home yourself shortly before the party date), save the rind to use as bowls (just line with plastic wrap or something and you can have a bowl made from each side - obviously don't need to line it if you are putting fruit back in it, but for anything else). I have really been wanting to eat watermelon lately, but I missed the sale last week; this thread is not helping.
