Cooking Adventures with IBM

Yesterday, the Washington Post had this story about how Watson, IBM's super computer, is now generating new recipes.  

Basically, the computer has analyzed a bazillion recipes, plus things like the molecules of foods, and based on ingredient and style inputs from a user, will create new recipes on a sliding scale between safe and surprising.

Since I love mixing together new flavors, this is basically the greatest thing ever, and I have spent the past 24 hours seeing what wonderful, weird recipes I can create.

French-inspired bean and sweet potato burrito with goat cheese? yep.

French Tabasco Sauce Goat Cheese Burrito

INGREDIENTS LIST


LEGUME

3 cup, shelled fava bean

OIL/FAT

1 tbsp olive oil

CHEESE

6 oz, crumbled goat cheese

HERB

1 1⁄2 tbsp, chopped flat-leaf parsley

WRAP

8 tortillas

CONDIMENT

1 1⁄4 cup tabasco sauce

SEASONING/SPICE

3⁄4 tsp cumin

VEGETABLE

1 chopped onion

3⁄4 cup, chopped, peeled, diced, halved red onion

1 cup, cubed, peeled sweet potato



SUGGESTED STEPS

Heat olive oil in medium saucepan over medium heat.

Add onions and cumin; saute about 4 minutes.

Stir in fava bean, sweet potato, and 1⁄4 cup tabasco sauce.

Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and cook 10 minutes to blend flavors, stirring often.

Season filling to taste with salt and pepper.

Stir together remaining tabasco sauce, diced red onion, and 1⁄4 of the flat-leaf parsley in small bowl.

Heat tortillas 1 at a time over gas flame or electric burner.

Transfer to work surface.

Spoon filling onto centers of tortillas, dividing equally.

Top each with 1 tablespoon goat cheese and 1⁄4 of the flat-leaf parsley.

Fold 2 sides in over filling, then roll up burrito from unfolded edge.

Place 1 burrito, seam side down, on each of 4 plates.

Top with onion-tabasco sauce mixture and remaining goat cheese.

This is so cool. Now I am certainly not going to be very productive today.
