My husband has crohns disease and the last couple months his platelet levels have been low. He has remicade treatments and he takes medicine for it. He has a rare form that only 5% get and it almost took his life about 7 years ago. He ended up having surgery. Anyway, some of the side effects of the medicine and treatment are lymphoma and other cancers as well as his immune system being low. At this point we are hoping it's his medicine causing the low numbers and that backing off of it some will help but he's had fevers for a week now so the doctor is concerned he has an infection and might need hospitalization because of how low his blood levels and platelets are. He had some more tests done today and we should know more in a couple days. I am trying really hard to think positive. If he backs off his meds then his crohns could become worse and he could be back to where he was 7 years ago. If he doesn't back off and he ends up having something else that could be bad as well. Again at this point we are hoping his immune system is just low from meds and causing platelets to be low because he's fighting a regular infection. I'm worried and exhausted! I haven't had much help with the girl and as seen in the big snooze she has not been sleeping well. I do not have family here to help but his parents have been able to help some. Any thoughts and prayers would be great! I am trying to stay hopeful that his body is just fighting a regular infection and that's what is causing low numbers! I know he is worried and scared as well. Thanks in advance!
