Preemie or Newborn for Twin go home clothes? Shopping for our girls go home outfits. Everyone has told me twins are typically smaller. Don't want them swimming or choking on their outfits! DD was 6.8 full term. Thoughts?
I bought newborn outfits for them, but had some preemie that I found on clearance at Target for $4 each on back up. They were (barely) able to wear the preemie and wore them in the hospital and came home in the newborn.
They were born at 38+4 and weighed 6 lbs 8 oz and 7 lbs 3 oz. My overdue (40+6) DD weighed 7 lbs 5 oz.
I would probably plan on newborn and send someone out for preemie if you end up needing them. If I hadn't happened across the clearance preemie at Target, that's what I would have done.
ETA: The newborn were a little roomy, but not huge. The preemie was almost too short. I doubt they would have been able to wear them of they'd been footed.

My boys were 6lbs7oz 20" and 6lbs10oz 19.75". They had been estimated at 5lb11oz just a few days before so they were bigger than I expected. I had brought a set of preemie outfits and a set of NB outfits and it turned out that even at their size, the NB outfits were huge on them; like their little arms would slip right out of the armholes into the torso part! So they ended up wearing a mix of preemie and NB the first few weeks. I know that sounds strange given their stats; the preemie stuff was a tad short but the NB stuff was just way too roomy at first (except for Gerber NB, since their onesies and such tend to run small).
Anyhow, I think bringing one outfit per baby in both Preemie and NB is your best bet.
ETA: They also each lost 7 oz in the hospital so they were 6.0 and 6.3 when we went home about 40 hrs after they were born.
Mine were born at 38 weeks. Ashley was 6lbs 0oz and 18.5 inches. Kayla was 5lbs 2oz and 17 inches. Both wore newborn clothing. It was a little big on Kayla, but not horribly so. I actually didn't buy any preemie clothing at all - I figured that if I really needed it, I could send my mother to the store to get some.

I'd go w NB. Chances are that if their able to go home w you (not preemies in the NICU), they will not look absolutely ridiculous in NB.
My twins were born at 34w, so they didn't get to go home w me. They were in the nicu until 35w6d, at which point they were a few oz over their birth weights of 5lbs and 5lbs 8oz.
Iirc, one wore preemie and the other NB. I don't do anything special for coming home outfits though, so I just picked out a couple outfits when I left to visit them that day.
They wore preemie for about a month and NB until they were 3 mo old. I had some preemie from my singleton - he was 6lbs at 37w1d.
We just did newborn and rolled up the sleeves and cuffs on the pants. I did a quick preemie clothes run after we came home and realized they were actually going to need it.

I just got NB but my twins came at 32wks and were 3lbs 14oz and 4lb 1 oz. by the time they came home by boy was in NB and my girl was still in preemie but not for very long. Also they were in the NICU for a month so I had plenty of time to go shopping. They weren't allowed to wear clothes at first either.
Preemie is generally meant for under 5lbs NB is generally 5-8lbs 0-3 is generally 8-11lbs
My babies were born at 32 weeks and came home from the NICU at 37 weeks. They were both around 4lbs11oz ish when they came home. So they both wore preemie for awhile once they were home.
We didn't buy any preemie clothes until it became clear they were going to come early (my water broke so I was in the hospital for a week before they came). Mine also were in NB clothes for 3.5 months so we had to buy more NB clothes as we went.

I think newborn will likely be ok. My twins were 5 lb5oz and 5lb6oz at 37+5. I brought both preemie and nb with me. The preemie was already short on both of them and the only time they ever wore the preemie sleepers was on the way home from the hospital. My dd (singleton) had been born at 6 lbs even at 37+6.
began TTC 2009 N&A, our b/g twins born and lost 3/7/12 at 20 weeks due to PPROM N (girl), 6/26/13 E&A (b/g twins), 4/5/15 BFP 3/27/17, EDD 12/3/17 IVF veteran with multiple losses - feel free to ask me about it.
