How do we even do this?!

Lillian told me that she was "almost done with diapers".  She threw a fit last night at bed time and today at nap because she doesn't want to wear one.  Fine.  I tucked her into bed with undies, but literally 30 seconds later she's panicking and wants a diaper.  No problem, I put one on her.

She isn't really waking up dry, though.  She's had a handful of dry nap in the last 2 months but nothing consistent. 

Do I just put her in bed without a diaper and pray?  Do I buy 2 extra mattress covers because lawd knows we're going to have some messy naps?  Do they just decide to go diaperless one day and POOF!, no pee?

Will she potty for you right before nap time? M normally pees right before nap so I am comfortable letting her nap in undies and so far we haven't had a problem. If she doesn't pee right before nap, I usually put her in a pull-up, just in case. So here, pee before nap = no diaper.

We still use pull-up style diapers at night. She wakes up dry about 70% - 75% of the time and occasionally wakes up during the night to pee. To me, that's not enough to warrant undies at night. I'll probably wait until she wakes up dry maybe 90-95% of the time to take away the night diapers, but M also doesn't fight the diapers--that adds an extra challenge!

Maybe start with undies at nap time and see how it goes?

We were in the same boat. D refused to wear diapers for naps one day, and, soon after, for night time. We just went with it and put him in undies (except our kid is weird and doesn't like to wear undies at home, so just pj pants). There was about a week solid of daily nap accidents and that slowly tapered to very few if any. It seemed like he got the hang of night time quicker, but he will occasionally have accidents if he has too much too drink too close to sleep time.

I say give it a try! I was really nervous since he wasn't waking up dry really at all, but it went well. It made sense to follow his cue since I felt nervous about when to start. Get extra sheets and a few mattress covers and you'll be set.

::fingers crossed:: we have been very lucky and it's been the bolded for us.  But I don't think that is the norm.  Hanna has always been dry during naps and bedtime.  We've been sleeping in underwear for about 2 weeks now at bedtime.  For naps it was about 2 months after initially starting.

I really don't think there is any training that you can do.  Their bodies just need to learn to wake them up to go or they just make it all night.  Me personally I would push for the nighttime diaper if I could.  It's just easier.  Especially if she's partially wet most days.  But at some point she's not going to want to have it.  In that case I would invest in something for the bed to cover it.  Don't they make covers that sound crunchy every time you move??

@vkaydid12: yes! She pees right before bed, but she still wakes up wet. We've cut back on liquids before nap and bed time, but sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't. Its inconsistent, which is why I thought I was missing something.

bliz1712: yup, crunchy bed protectors. They have one kind thats a little more expensive that is on her bed now, which is waterproof and breathable (to keep her cool) but its spendy. I don't want to have to buy more of those but I will if I have to.

Ok then! I guess I'll just have to wait until she's consistent. Maybe her unwillingness to wear diapers will push her more to wake up and pee in the toilet.

We are still in diapers too at night. Most naps she wakes up dry but I am paranoid and put a diaper on over her underwear as added incentive to keep them dry. We won't attempt to take away the night diapers for quite awhile yet.

We waited until DS went a week waking up dry and then took away the diaper. It was terrifying but so far, so good! Couldn't hurt to try.

We are keeping the night time diapers for awhile. Naps we do diaperless and most of the time she's dry, but she wakes up wet in the mornings a lot so the diaper stays!

This is mostly us too. She still wears a pull up for some naps, but she fights the nap diaper more. And she's taken quite a few without just fine. She did have an accident at my moms the other say at nap, but I do t think she had her go right before either..... We're not even close to nighttime though she wakes up wet most mornings.

L went from dry during nap to dry overnight really quickly. Once she got one, the other just seemed to click. In the early days, when she didn't want to wear a diaper/pull up to bed but was still wetting, I would put undies over the diaper/pull up that way she technically had her undies like she wanted but she couldn't pee in her bed.

We still do pull ups at night & nap. It's starting to bother her and she constantly asks for underwear, but she's wet most mornings. I told her when she's got a dry pull up for a week we'll try underpants, but I think it'll be a while.

We always do this too - and have been almost since day 1 because she really wants to wear her undies.
