I don't know, but please report back!! We see our pedi Friday to finally beg for a referral. I just can't handle the allergies on my own. I have no idea what to expect either. GL!
You will be asked to fill out an extensive questionarre. The doctor will want you to say in your own words what's been happening. They will examine LO and then do skin testing and possible blood testing you will wait to see if anything pops up and then the doc will come in to inspect the reaction. Then he will tell you what to do next.
Always ask the severity doc expects? What er to go to if you have a problem?

luvboston Were you able to get a nutrition consult? With so many reactions, and my worry about her reacting to like families, I feel like I am totally failing at introducing new foods. I need guidance. Although I guess knowing what reacts on the skin test will help me with that...

Well, he didn't test positive for anything. The doctor said she isn't convinced though. She said that he definitely had a reaction on Thanksgiving (we have the ER documentation, so there is no doubt). She said that babies this young can sometimes have false negatives with skin tests. So, she said to continue to avoid all tree nuts and peanuts, and we will repeat the skin testing in three months. We need to continue to carry an epipen in the meanwhile. Sigh.

No we didn't because I have terrible allergies myself and feel I know more than the nutritionist. For example she rec giving peanut butter and almond butter at 7 mos that's a choking hazard

Is the first allergist appt a one-and-done type deal? Or are there several followups? We got our first allergist referral, but also our first offer on our house. If the sale goes through, we will be gone in 6 weeks or so. If it's just one appt then I'll go ahead here. But if it's usually multiple appts, seems like it makes more sense to wait. Anyone?

TJ- They did the scratch testing at his first appointment. I had no idea what to expect. When I asked the receptionist when we scheduled, she said it all depends on the case, and the doctor would decide what to do during the appointment, but come prepared for testing that day. So, no benadryl or anti-histamine for seven days prior to the appointment. I think they would do the testing that day, especially if they know you are on a timeline.
Yayyy for getting the referral! Hopefully you can get some answers soon! And that's awesome about the offer! Fx that the sale goes through!

Allergy appts are hard to come by I would go while you have an appt then it's much easier to transfer to another allergist starting with a new pedi and asking for an allergist is harder. Also at least the testing would be done before you move. There is usually at least one follow up 2-3 months later
