Hi D14 ladies!
LO's surgery on Thursday to correct her craniosynostosis was a success! We are still here in the PICU, but we got the ok to be discharged tomorrow. It's been a rough past couple days but the worst is behind us. Surgery took three hours along with an additional 2 hours of the doctors trying to get 2 IVs in her leg and 2 arterial lines in her arms. It was tough seeing her with all those wires and drains coming out of her from top to bottom, but as of today the catheter, arterial line, IVs (except one) and head drain are out.
Yesterday was the hardest. The swelling set in and took over her entire head, face and eyes. She had a blood transfusion during surgery, but needed a second transfusion last night. While the transfusion was taking place she was kicking and screaming. We couldn't figure out why she was freaking out until we looked at her IV. Twenty minutes into the second blood transfusion she had wiggled and squirmed so much the needle shifted and blood was dripping out of her foot. While it was probably a small amount of blood it looked like a lot because her bed was SOAKED. Luckily the nurses here are amazing and the issue was quickly fixed.
As of today her eyes are slowly behind to open and little bits of her personality are starting to peek through. She's still very fussy and sleepy, but she's doing much better since she was admitted and I am crazy ready to take her home. Sorry this post is all over the place I'm operating on very little sleep
This is LO right in the prep room waiting for the her neurosurgeon, plastic surgeon and anesthesiologist. She was all smiles !
This was taken right after she was admitted to the PICU
First bottle in 32 hours!
She has pokes and bruises all over arms and legs
Her swelling looks pretty bad here, but her eyes are definitely getting better
