Calling All Serial Fans: Breaking News

Saw Adnan's name flash across the ticker this morning just as I was turning off the TV. A quick Google search turned up a number of articles, including this Huffington Post one. They all say basically the same thing: the case is being granted a new evidentiary hearing, which could bring Asia McClain's testimony into the courtroom. If I'm not mistaken, this testimony placed Adnan at the library at the time of the murder.

Thoughts? Do you think her testimony could actually help Adnan after all this time?

Completely agree. I cannot understand why his lawyer at the time didn't grab hold of this information and use it to its fullest extent.

I can't say that I think he didn't do it. BUT it seems like he should have never have been convicted since there wasn't undeniable proof against him. I don't know if this testimony could overturn anything at this point, but it's a very interesting and disturbing case. Can't wait for Serial to come back with a new one.

risscaboobs, I, too, can't say for sure what I think about his culpability. But it is pretty shocking that he was ever convicted. Let's be honest, there have been people who have gotten off when there was a lot more evidence against them. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Also YES to dying for Serial to come back! I'm at a loss for what to listen to these days because nothing has grabbed me quite like Serial did.

Hmm this will be interesting. What does that make Jay if this is true? His whole story is a lie then.

Oh Jay... I just don't even know what to do with that guy. What's your take on his story? Even without McClain's information, do you believe his story?

EEEEE! I can't commit to whether or not he's guilty, but no doubt that trial was missing some possible key information that was floating around at the time.

Here's another article I read that was posted on FB last night.
I didn't realize there was a spinoff podcast. Must listen to all of them. It's called Undisclosed.

Not even a little bit.

I definitely think Adnan had something to do with it, and that Jay may have actually done the deed, but then panicked, and concocted a hole-y story to minimize his involvement.

I agree, Adnan had something to do with it or some knowledge. But I think Jay was probably way more involved, not only than what he said himself, but also more involved than Adnan.

There was an interview months ago with Jay to tell his side of the story. I don't know. I agree with everyone else that he was probably involved more than he made it seem.

I am REALLY interested in seeing how this plays out. I was in the camp of "not sure if he's guilty or not, but shouldn't have a life sentence." I read an article last night actually about how the U.S. is the only country in the world that tries kids under 18 as adults and gives them life sentences at all.

It was silly that Asia's testimony was not previously used.

I loved Serial, but I'm nervous about them making another season of it. It'd be hard to find a case as windy and twisty as this one!

Yeah, I read those interviews as they were released. I just don't buy him or his story.

I don't know. We watch Dateline every once in a while and I always get sucked in. I'm sure there are tons of crazy cases out there. Maybe it won't crazy in the same way but it should still be interesting.

Agreed. I get sucked into Dateline and 20/20 episodes and all those other true crime shows on ID and Discovery. I bet they can find some pretty interesting stories to cover!

I totally agree.  Jay was so shady and his story made no sense.  It is baffling to me that Adnan was convicted though when the case had so little evidence, and I'm glad to see that he has been granted this new hearing.

Yes.  The state's case completely hinges on this timeline.  If he wasn't in this made up timeline at the time they say, then there ya go.  The State's case falls apart.

This is obviously very different from what really happened, but the case is based on this timeline.  This one.  Not the real one.

EDIT: I do not know if Adnan is guilty, but I don't think that he should have been convicted on the evidence that was presented.

I really do think this is a big break for the case. If they end up allowing her testimony, it completely undermines the timeline that everything hinged on, like you said. It's going to be really interesting to watch this unfold, I think.

Thanks for sharing! I was beyond obsessed with Serial. I think that Adnan is guilty but I agree that everything wasn't presented at trial as it should have been.

In case anyone is interested in my theory, I think that Adnan killed her at his house. He had her drive him home and then got her to come in for some reason. She took her shoes off upon entering - which could very well have been something done in Adnan's house. (When her body was found, her shoes were not on her and were never found.) He then put her in the trunk and drove to Best Buy to meet Jay where he popped the trunk to show him the body.

I need to look into this Undisclosed spin-off!!!

They talked about this at length in Undisclosed. The Jay's Day episode. Really interesting! It definitely sounds like he was fed information beforehand and when he remembered incorrectly, he was led back in the right direction. At one point they mention him maintaining that he and Adnan were having a conversation while driving somewhere IN TWO DIFFERENT VEHICLES! And he didn't mean a phone conversation. Jay is just a mess and is definitely more involved than he wants everyone to believe.

I just finished Undisclosed and they uncovered quite a bit of information. It seems like there were so many easy ways to have proved Anand's location and they dropped the ball.
