So DH and I were visiting MIL this past weekend and stopped in this kooky little shop that has books that DD really likes (Worry Woos-check it out!). I was looking for a teething necklace for me to wear, but they only had amber necklaces (for $30!). So this little European lady convinced me to buy one. Saying that its all the rage in Europe, and everyone wears them to help with migraines and allergies. Blah Blah Blah. DD has been teething and I've had the necklace on her since we bought it. I've taken it off at night only.
So just wondering if some of you have tried these before (I know you have bc I saw them in your HDBD pics ). Do you keep them on 24/7? Have you noticed a difference in babes attitude/discomfort?
I've heard mixed reviews on them but I just bought one through etsy a couple weeks ago and have yet to receive it. I won't be keeping it on her at night but I thought it would be worth a try. I will probably only let her have it on when I'm with her and not when she's playing by herself. I don't know it just makes me nervous. I know someone posted about this a while back but I can't remember who all has them. Hopefully someone can give us more of an opinion with more experience with it
I know this wasn't the question you asked but... I honestly don't think they work and to me they seem dangerous unless each bead is separately knotted in case it breaks.
We've had one on DS since he was 4 months. It goes around his ankle when he sleeps, is individually knotted and has a pop apart clasp. I don't know if it works but he got his first tooth right before Christmas and it was such a non event that I didn't even know until he bit my finger and it was sharp. He just got his second tooth 2 days ago and again it didn't really bother him. I did also notice his drooling reduced massively within a few hours of putting it on.
emmagk I noticed the drool stopped as well once I put it on P. I just took it off recently as I wanted to see if it actually helped with pain, hard to tell because her teeth are right unddr the gums and make an indent on my boobs when nursing, but they just won't break through!
Thankfully DS hasn't been too terrible with the teething, so I can't speak to whether they work for that. I personally wouldn't have concern having him wear it though. The beads are each separately knotted for safety.
What I can speak to, and just my experience, if that they do work for pain. I've used them in the past for my fibromyalgia pain and I 100% feel that they work. They provide me much more relief than any of the dozens of meds my docs have experimented with.
I have one of these and it did say not to have your lo wear them w/o supervision or while they are sleeping, so 24/7 isn't an option, I don't think. Too many hazards.
I can't say I've noticed a difference when I have used mine but I haven't done it consistently. Might try it today since yesterday was a nightmare

The not unsupervised thing is why I wrap it around his ankle when he sleeps. It goes under his pjs or sock and he's in a sleep sack, so no way he can get to it. For them to work they are supposed to be on all the time and the closer to the source of the pain the better. The only time DS has his off is when he's in water.

I saw this and that's a great idea! I might try that tonight too
Like emmagk I have one that I put around D's ankle. He wore it for about 2 months while his 2 bottom teeth were coming in. I didn't think it helped at all so I took it off. He is now cutting his 2 top teeth and it's just as bad as it was when he wore the anklet while cutting the bottom 2.

We keep ours on during the day (incl naps) and on the ankle at night. He popped his first tooth before I got it, so I've seen a difference in terms of less drooling and irritability. Is it a cure all? No. Do I think it helps? Yes.
Thanks guys for your input. I think I will try putting it on her ankle at night. She is just starting to get her two bottom teeth and so far doesn't seem bothered. FX it helps.

Is it not supposed to get wet? I'm just curious. I saw a little girl with one on while swimming so wasn't sure if we could keep hers on when she swims.

DD has had one since about 4 months. She popped her bottom 2 teeth 2 weeks ago, and I"m not sure if it helped since she was really crabby at night. I've left it on her the entire time she's had it. I'm not sure if it helps at all, but since it doesn't do her any harm to wear it, I'll keep it on her for a while longer.

I've read that chlorine can affect the oils in the beads which is the important part.

No they shouldn't get wet. I take it off for baths. Sometimes at meals if its going to get messy (got yogurt on it once).
Some people say to put it in the sun to recharge it ... as my husband calls it hocus pocus.
I call hocus pocus too. We won't be getting one. Some friends swear by them though. I guess if you can afford it, and use it safely, its not so bad. I just hate how if I say anything on Facebook from teething to fevers to diaper rash my friends always say I should use the necklace.
All I have to say is she's been sleeping awful lately and last night I put it on her ankle she also wore it all day yesterday and she only woke once and went right back down! Today she's had it on and naps have been great. Maybe coincidence but we are keeping it on!

I have a really nice one that was 30 bucks off amazon. It's raw amber and individually knotted. I used it for a few months but recently she has been trying to put it into her mouth all the time. I am going to try putting in back on in another week or two and hope she forgets about it. I think it helped with the drool, not sure about pain relief. I used to take it off at night.

I think I may have gotten the same one. Now that you mention I have noticed that the drool isn't as bad. But she's coughing a lot more from swallowing it now.
