Are there any social or financial benefits to being married in the U.K.? I had a friend from Holland and she said there was no real benefit except for personal beliefs. In the U.S., it affords a lot of benefits (taxes, insurance, legal rights, etc.)
I really don't know. If we are going by looks, I get told I look like this girl from a soap called Hollyoaks all the time. I don't agree but I have been told by lots of people.

To be honest, our system is a bit messed up. You are actually entitled to more if you are single.
If you live alone you get council tax reduction by 25%. If you are a single unemployed mother you are more likely to get a house given to you by the council. But if you are a family, they assume the father is employed and wont help as much.
You get lots of monetary benefits from being a single parent. When you divorce, the father has to pay child maintenance but that's all.
As long as the fathers name is on the birth certificate, they pretty much have as many rights as if you were married.
A lie in until around 10am, Croissants in bed while having a cuddle with my boys. Probably a family trip out to something like a zoo. Then an art gallery show with SO in the evening before home cooked dinner and watching a movie in bed.

I must seem so exciting.
That sounds lovely. I would call that a perfect day too!!
You may have answered this, but I can't remember - how did you and SO meet?

Technically online. We had a mutual friend on FB and we both used to comment on the statuses a lot. We would end up chatting on the status (much to the annoyance of our friend ) and in the end we decided to meet for a coffee. He then asked me on a date and the rest is history!

What's the weirdest or most annoying habit you've noticed about your american bumpie pals?
I wouldn't call it weird or a habit, but I do find it confusing when spellings are different. I end up questioning myself whether I have spelt it wrong or if its different here.
There are also a few things I have no idea about, so I can't contribute to the conversation. Usually Restaurants, everyone gets really excited and I haven't got a clue. That and PnP & RnP. I keep meaning to look up what they are but I always forget.
so I guess I get more annoyed at myself for not having the foggiest idea what people are talking about.
With family, I would want to take the boys to Florida. DS loves all things Disney so we could go to Disney land and also see the Wizarding world of Harry Potter because we are HP nerds in this house.
With just SO, we have always talked about France, we would go to the Louvre and other galleries as well as generally sight see there.
pnwlover12 Probably Florida for the touristy things. But I think i'd have to do a plan based on what I've seen on American food programmes. I have watching programmes about the restaurants there and I am so jealous. I would tour America just for your food!
Also no, we don't all hate Americans. I have only met a couple people IRL but they have all been lovely. I think English people are actually more prejudiced against another country but I don't want to possibly upset anyone by naming where! It's mainly because our Government gives a lot of people from that country a house when they come to England and we have a pretty shitty homeless situation in my county.
Florida is probably the last place I'd visit, lol! Ok, maybe not the last, I'll save that for North Dakota or something.
It's purely for the Disney aspect for the boys really.
FFTC I don't actually know much about where anything is in America. I am so terrible at geography I don't know where anything is. My sister actually lived in the USA for about 7 years, but to this day, I don't know where. If I was actually going to visit there, I think i'd have to ask for a lot of suggestions.
