We have to get something to cover our TV stand edges, they are sharp. And DS keeps pulling up and standing with it. Luckily it's not a piece of furniture that could fall on him. We have wall straps for the dressers. We have the door knob things, but he's not old enough for us to worry about that yet. Luckily we have a small house and keep the doors closed to our rooms and bathroom. We will need to invest in some baby gates soon though. Our whole house is tile so we just recently got a really nice area rug with extra carpet padding underneath for DS to play on so if he falls we don't have to worry too much about him getting hurt.

Sounds like you are way more ahead of the game than me, we have not done anything but need to start pronto. I think we are going to buy those plastic gate type things like this: Gate at least for the living room since our house has an open floor plan and DD will be roaming everywhere. We have a fireplace with very sharp slate edges so DH said he is going to put foam or something on the corners.
That is all I got so far, hoping others have more ideas to share.
jt2378 we're getting the same gate to keep DS out of the cat litter.
We're also going to get something like this for the top of the stairs. Other than that, we have outlet covers everywhere and just organized and tied back the cords behind the TV. I did the same for one of our floor lamps, but still need to get to the other one. Stupid living room doesn't have an overhead light, or the lamps would be gone. I also need to make the bottom shelf of our living room bookcase baby-safe. Ideally, the bottom shelf or two would be just baby toys and books. DH is going to have to thin out his video game collection for that to happen.
On a related topic...has anyone lowered the crib mattress yet? When did you do it? DS has managed to sit up in bed a couple times, but doesn't pull up yet. Can I wait?

melw629, we just did this last night. I have been saying this to DH for a couple of weeks and he finally did last night. She isn't pulling up yet either but is up on her knees and I figured it is just a matter of time and didn't want to wait until she was actually almost falling out! It is a PITA though because now its back breaking to put her in there so low but safer so that is all that matters!

Does hounding my toddler to keep her toys with small pieces out of the living room count? Really though, we have cabinet/drawer latches, and a play yard that we haven't really been using. We mostly just keep everything picked up off the floor. Oh, and we have a baby gate that we ended up turning sideways and securing against a bookshelf with a bungie cord, if that makes sense. It keeps the toddler from ripping everything off the shelves.

Oh man, I haven't even started yet. I have so much to buy and do it's overwhelming. DD is not as mobile as all of your guy's LO's yet, she just rolls around and kinda army crawls but when she sits up she stays in one place but I know I need to get on it ASAP.

I'm with you, LO isn't mobil but I'm worried it will happen overnight and I won't be ready.

We haven't done much as far as baby proofing yet. We have an open floor plan too so I don't really know where to start with the living/kitchen/dining area. But we bought a cheap inflatable pool like this and blew it up to put in the living room to keep him contained where he can crawl around. He seems to like it alright and he can't crawl out of it yet.
We lowered the crib awhile ago, when he first started crawling. It was just in time too, because he almost immediately started pulling up to stand in there.

Great idea spacedcadet, you must have a big living room

It is pretty big. I feel like our house is mostly living room really. Lol. But that being said the pool is pretty crammed in there and it doesn't look great, but it works for now. It is certainly better than following him around everywhere all of the time.

At least he will stay in there, I feel like DD is going through a stage where she isn't content on the floor anymore and wants us walking around with her everywhere!! Hello exhausting!!
