Inspired by my lyfe, I think it would be fun if weddings were super super formal ballgown type events. There are no adult opportunities to wear super fancy gowns and it would be fun to dress up. Andplusalso you wouldn't have the stress of trying to figure out if your outfit is too dressy or casual.

I love this. There aren't enough opportunities to wear fancy dresses in life! We go to a party on NYE every year with friends. Normally we all get decked out. This year they asked us all to come in PJs.
It was still super fun, but I wear PJs every day. I hope they go back to fancy for next year.

What are you talking about? I'm rocking a ball gown right now.

Oh god but so expen$ive!!!
Come to Boutique $hell. I've literally got a closet full of formal attire. Because professional musician who used to have formal events.

I bought a turquoise to white ombre beaded mermaid gown on sale. I know it sounds like a lot going on but think Classic Vanna White. It was on sale and as I have said, zero impulse control.
I am just waiting for a life occasion to wear it. Like being one of Carrie Bradshaw's bridesmaids.

Do you have the kind of friends you can talk into a formal house party? That was the only way I was ever going to wear my grandma's ballgown. I mean, aside from playing dress up with DD and twirling around in dresses and boas and pirate hats.
Ok, another uo maybe: while I like some of the new features, I like the format of the place that shall not be named better. I pretty much never leave randoms now and miss a lot of threads. Also, it signs me out all the time. Also, I miss seeing the lovetits. Idk why I liked it but it was nice to see all of them lined up.

Harry Potter said Voldemort when no one else would, so that Voldemort didn't have any power over him.

I know a few people who would be down.
I have been meaning to organize a Friends viewing party in our wedding dresses for some girlfriends.
I saw parenting refer to the other place as the Dump. I think this is a quality nickname. Maybe we could use UOs this week to talk about things we like or dislike about this place?
Or maybe we could all take the time to mock babycenter. I went over there for the first time this morning...because SIL, she of the Irish quads, hangs out there. I was appalled in so many ways so fast, but the thing that got me the most is they have a board, a board not a thread dedicated to posting pee stick photos and having people squint at them for you. Insanity!
It would be like a UO because based on the sheer number of photos, I would have to conclude that that kind of thing is popular.

I think I have a true UO well at least in my area anyway.
I'm all for safety checkpoints especially during holiday weekends. I know people think they are an invasion of privacy. Personally, I don't mind the inconvenience if it means less drunk drivers on the roads.
Sorry this is going to be a post and run. I have to watch the boys but wanted to post before I forgot!

DH took me shopping at the Rack on Sunday and I found a Monique Lhuillier gown for $30. I bought it. I have no idea when I'll wear it, but it fit well. I need fancier occasions in my life too.

1. Can I come?
2. Do our wedding dresses need to actually zip up or is it okay to like bungee them shut in the back?
1. Of course.
2. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. My ribcage still hasn't gone down to normal size (I am probably going to get one of those Kardashian bands). There is no way it would button up.

tenniscourt I don't mind them either, but I do mind being asked to blow a breathalyzer for no good reason. I can always pass it, but I it feels like an invasion to be asked to do it when there's no evidence that I've been drinking.

This sounds amazing! My dog's name is Carrie Bradshaw, if she ever gets married you can come and wear the dress.
I wish it was just socially acceptable to dress up more in general. People are so casual, I love getting dressed up and wish it was like in the 40's, 50's etc where men wore suits and women dresses. Last year on our anniversary we went to a very fancy restaurant and got all dressed up. The couple next to us had on beach clothes. Seriously?! Is there no where that people stay classy for anymore?

See, I'd be all "BREATHALYZE ME, BITCH" because sober and damn proud of it.
But I totally get why normal people would find the entire process annoying.

I have never been in a road checkpoint. In 16 years of driving. That seems statistically unlikely.

I think I have an actual UO inspired by the SOTU this week.
I'm nowhere near the 1% whose taxes are always up for discussion, but I'd be willing to pay more in taxes to fund better education, state-funded maternity leave (I don't even need a year, but SOMETHING), improved roads (I'm looking at you, Michigan) and (grasp your pearls) single-payer health care.
The last portion of that is brought to you by last night's conversation with SIL that renewed my OHIP envy.
I've never been through a checkpoint but my college boyfriend went through one in South Carolina when he was driving his (drunk) grandma home from Bingo.
/anecdote
Oooh, oooh! PICK ME! I have an anecdote!
When I was in college, I was stopped by a friendly officer whilst walking home from my Political Theory & Constitutional Democracy class (useful, no?) that ended at 7pm on Thursday night. They were trying to stop underage drinking. I was 21. Imbued with the righteous indignation of the founding fathers, I told that officer he had no probable cause to stop me and that talked *at length* about my Fourth Amendment rights. He pretty much said "yeah, but I can still detain you and ruin your Thursday night and force your parents to come bail you out." That's when I sighed and showed him my license. I got a serious eye roll, was told to lighten up.
This is filed under 'things I wouldn't dare do now'.

Right there with you. Hearing about Canadian healthcare and maternity leave has really made up my mind on this issue. I am all for adopting a Canadian style healthcare system. Hells yes. Also maternity leave. It wouldn't even have to be longer, just existing would be nice.
A close friend of mine married and Canadian and got her citizenship. Oddly enough they have decided to be childless, so far the only major expense they've had healthcarewise was a vasectomy.
