Anterior Placentas (yeah, both of them, *grumble*...)

I know I've brought this up before at the multiple pregnancy check in and got some fantastically reassuring answers from you ladies, but I've hit 28 weeks and now I'm always hyperaware that I should be monitoring movements.

I'm still struggling with knowing which movements belong to which twin, and on top of that I think one of them is facing my back so I can't feel any of its movements at all. I can feel kicks when they are in the front and strong/deliberate, but I know there are movements going on that I can't feel. When I sit and watch my bump, I do see the swirly ripples under my skin that signal a roll or something, but I can't feel it at all. I guess this is down to the placenta placement? Sometimes I really have to stop doing what I'm doing and concentrate just to make sure I am feeling movement at all.

I guess my question is, at what point could you consistently feel both twins' movement -- especially with one or two anterior placentas? Trying not to worry too much as there is indeed movement, but I guess 32 weeks can't come quickly enough if that's when they'll likely be "locked" into a position!

I didn't feel my singleton a lot with his anterior placenta. With my twins one had a posterior (A) and the other had a left anterior (B). I felt A a ton, but B... I could see her moving, but I didn't always feel it. Even at the end she was hard to get a read on, from movement to monitors in the hospital. I did feel her more later on but it was not as much as her sister.

My singleton had an AP as well. I felt her so rarely, even up until the very end. Had a whole bunch of extra NSTs and some ultrasounds towards the end because it felt so quiet in there, but she was always bopping around like crazy. Doesn't quite answer your question but I hope it gives you some peace of mind!!

I have no experience with anterior placentas but just wanted to say I'm sorry, that must be so frustrating! Hope you start getting consistent movement soon!

Both of mine have anterior placentas. One has been very obvious when he's moving - baby A, but Baby B is not as obvious. Still at this point (35w2d)! I realize that when I feel things by my butt, it's Baby B- so hiccups in my butt- baby B. Tickle by my left hip bone- Baby B. When I could kicks I typically count them total. And do it twice!

sunnyb, I'm assuming yours are sort of stuck in one position? Around about what week did that happen?

Since 26 weeks both were head down and I could very easily tell which twin was moving. Baby B-boy- flipped last week and went head up he is an AP and now I have a very difficult time feeling him. Some days are better then others. I'm currently 32W 4D. I know it's stressful too, because I always worry when I can't feel baby boy.

Oh yes, they're stuck! The u/s tech told us they had room to change positions at my 28 week scan- and told me they didn't anymore at either 30 or 32 weeks. They've both been head down since the 28 week scan though.

Is it easier to get a count on your side? I typically get a good count from whoever I'm annoying by laying on!

Actually, that did help last night. I didn't clue in that it'd annoy them, haha -- that'll be my new tactic

I had an AP with my singleton and freaking 2 AP with my twin pregnancy - I feel your pain! For whatever reason I feel baby B quite a bit (I think she's positioned high up and transverse so I feel her on the sides of the placenta) , but I very rarely feel baby A (he's low, head down and in my cervix). I maybe feel him every other day max? I second the PP who mentioned I do get the best kick counts on my side, but with baby A I can't even rely on that all the time. It's annoying but I've just had to learn to not do kick counts and not worry about it.

I only regularly felt B, but I figured if one was ok, they probably both were.. I counted 10 movements total, not 10 from each twin..I had one freak out moment when I didn't count 10 in two hours and went in just to be safe. All was well and the boys are perfectly healthy 12 week olds!

I know it can be worrisome, but try to relax as much as possible.

I had two anterior placentas and while I could feel movement fairly early on, it wasn't until probably 30+ weeks and after several ultrasounds that gave me a good idea where they were that I was able to tell with relative certainty who was moving. My little guy, baby B, was curled up in my upper left and he was hard to figure out sometimes. Whenever the OB/MFM asked me about movement I'd say there was lots but I didn't know who was who and she was never concerned. It wasn't until near the end that I was less concerned about their every little movement (being pgal didn't help).
