This is awesome! Dh and I are both avid readers, we even read aloud to each other for fun, so we really hope to instill of love of reading into L. She already adores books more than anything else so we are off to a good start
We are avid readers too so when I first saw the challenge, I figured who wouldn't complete it? Then MH reminded me my parents never read to me so don't assume and that hopefully this will help parents want to read to their kids.
ETA sorry chickypoo for going down a rabbit trail. ETA #2 OMgosh, I'm messing up the quote boxes so badly.
I'm running late trying to get out of the house, but wanted to post here my new exciting green-ness. I've been using my breadmaker more and more, thanks to you ladies. I love the overnight timer feature. I also love how cheap the bread is. I made a raisin/seed loaf last night, and it was incredible! I'm trying out v.2.0 this am since it overflowed a bit. I'm sure that loaf would have been $6-8 if I had bought it. I love that I can make it at home!

Yay! So far I've found a half white half what loaf I think I'll user for sandwiches. And I made some kinda white bread to go with the pit roast in the slow cooker last weekend.
That's easy then. I counted once and we have almost 100 board books. While it seems like way too many and too much mess some days - we go through to try to put some away for a while and realize we read them ALL and can recite most of them. Heck M can even recite many of the rhyming ones.
I also think its so funny how she gets attached to certain ones at times. Like this month its anything with a moon in it. She knows the pages with the moons, and the pages with a sleeping kid on them. How ironic...she always says "shhhhh" and finds the page with sleeping kids/animals. Before the new year it was anything with a horse. Pigs seem to be on the horizon.
I do wish the library had more board books - she gets mad cuz she can't turn the pages herself with real ones.
M loves the moon right now too!!
But man, she seems like a genius! M doesn't recite things at all

He has also never tried to diaper anything
Kids just have different interests. V is probably a little later to the talking thing, but he's been learning a lot more words lately. And its only been in the last week or so that he's started to say more than one word at a time. so no recitations here either. One of my nieces was matching pitch and singing twinkle on syllables before she was one. V loves puzzles. He's already gotten pretty good at 2,3,and 4 piece puzzles. That's even how he started to learn some letters.
And yes, the moon. V will turn off the lights, try to open the blinds, and look for the moon outside.
I got a new boat bristle brush and I love it. It's one with the plastic bristles too so it grabs your hair instead of just smoothing it.
I think we gave up on diahwasher detergent. We ran out of washing soda and D bought some cascade. Our dishes and dishwasher have never looked better. Buzzkill.
DH bought Cascade yesterday and I went to pour it in the dishwasher and the smell was so strong I literally felt like it burned my nose and throat. Usually I buy seventh generation powder.

meesh Some kids won't do it unless you kind of bait them into it by messing up the words. "The cow jumped over the snake?" Others will start doing it with songs or nursery rhymes. It took N a while to do it but I started leaving words off and letting him fill in the rest. Now he's old enough that he likes to make up his own words to tunes. "Twinkle, twinkle little bunny." He doesn't make it rhyme, though; I'm pretty sure he could if we hadn't used cloth diapers.
mimsy, from what I've heard, they wouldn't even be worth it to wrap about MF. But if you have them, you could certainly try - I've used some a burp cloths for the girl I nannied, but never as a diaper.
Everyone always says "don't bother using Gerber prefolds as diapers, use them as burp cloths." But I think they also make shitty burp cloths. So.

Same, I'd rather use my NB prefolds than those. And once he was done with them I had 24 of them to throw around the house.
They would be fine wrapping MF. It would be a little absorbency boost and also a liner. Just try it. Its not like anything bad will happen if you don't like it.
Someone posted a while back that gerber was all they used bc they didn't know any better and they managed just fine.
I think there are two different gerber prefolds too. One that's thicker and crappier and one that's thinner and better. The thinner one I think is three layers of Birdseye and can be doubled up for good use.

Yea. She doesn't really recite the whole thing. But she will say the last word in a sentence if I start it. Like if I say twinkle twinkle little: she will say star. And there's some books that rhyme she can finish just about every sentence.
I want to use my gerber pf in diapering... I know they suck, but can I use them in my flips? Could I wrap them around MF inserts to lay in?
Thursday was the Unpopular Opinion thread
It's more about not being allowed to buy more dipes, but only having smart fit pf that fit thirsties size 1. Sure, I can use pockets all the time, but then I wouldn't be able to use my covers.

That was me! We wrapped the BG nbs in them and put them in Flips. Worked great for living in a hotel for a week.
I made H thumbless mittens today filled with that crinkley thermo-batting. I am tired of being nervous about his fingers getting so cold... he's just going to have to suck it up and wear mittens sometimes. At least they're fashionable!
To all fellow library fans, our library started an awesome reading challenge. "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten". The challenge is to read 3 books/day to/with your child and in a year, that is 1,095 books! They gave us reading logs and there are prizes for every 250 books.
Ours also has a fun baby storytime followed by toddler storytime and craft. There are also free monthly concerts so that's GGTSSG. No coffee though
Does it count if you read the same books over and over again?

This is awesome! I am an avid reader, but MH really struggles with reading. Often I'll read books out loud so that we can read them together.

Does the Sageling have any flannel receiving blankets not being used? I fold the Target ones into a 5.5 layer rectangle, and they fit in thirsties size 1 and flips perfectly.
I think mine are 30x30 so 54's would be comically huge and fluffy. Did you try the Gerber pf yet? I registered and got a bunch thinking I'd use them for CD but after my newborn diaper trial, I never bothered and use them as burp cloths.
People who compost in cold climates: what do you do in the winter? Stop composting? This is probably a stupid question?
We still toss it out there. When there was a crap ton of snow D just dumped it in the barn, bc the chickens just go through the compost anyway. And it looked like the pig got some. But as long as we can get to the compost we dump it there. No way I'm making my garbage can all stinky again.

This is what we do too. If I can make it to the pile, it still gets dumped. That or the pigs get it.
