I totally get being weirded out by a lurker like myself. It was just time to join or walk away for me. I've found this community to be such a form of solace. Yall are awesome, honest women.
DS watches 30 mins or less most days. He'll be 3 in march and we were very careful to limit screentime especially before 1yo.
Yes, sometimes we have a movie day and watch a lot of movies/shows but it is honestly like 1x per month.
Probably helps that we don't own a tv?
I used to babysit for a family that was very strict on their 30 min a day rule so much so that they had a ticket system and you had to turn in a ticket to watch tv. I just don't know how anyone could find time to set that up.
DH babysat his thesis advisor's kids a few times. The kids didn't watch TV at all. Period.
My rainbow arrived 10/15/14.

My personal and medical opinion is that the progesterone IUD (Mirena) is awesome! I recommend it to all of my patients. I think a lot of the "horror histories" you hear about them are based on old research and poor prescribing tactics when they first came out. They are very safe and effective when prescribed properly.
No.. the horror stories I hear are from people I actually know. I used to work in an imaging office and the sonographer I worked with has told me she has seen several people where the iud started embedding itself into the body. Also, as mentioned before, had a friend who got pregnant with it in.
All medical providers say bc is safe and effective, but it's still not for me.
I don't like any kind of asian food... Not even the noodles. Blech
Okay, you're taking it too far.
I guess mine would be an UO in this case... I don't mind the noobs and actually like seeing new people on here. Most of them fall off anyway but there's always a chance that we'll get someone that we really like on here.
I keep getting purp and GDF confused because you notches have similar kitty avatars (Cute, BTW!). I feel like I *should* have my baby be my avatar but I'm psychotically private on public sites....fb is a different story.
Also, did anyone notice that the woman who randomly bitched GDF out on our BMB has been posting all of a sudden on the fb page? Ugh. Awkward.
I also am not a fan of female bc. I've tried the pill, depo, and implant. All of the hormones fuck me up. And I have heard too many horror stories about IUDs. Condoms ftw.
I have never used a condom with DH and we've been together 15 years!
My UO is my lo watches a lot of TV. I don't know what else to do with her. I watched a lot of TV as a kid because I was an only child with no kids on my street, BUT I think I am a better multitasker for it, I can have the TV on but not even pay attention to it. I used to play with my toys and watch tv all at the same time.
My toddler watches some TV as well but mainly loves his Kindle. I'm not opposed to TV at all but little kids can't "multitask" the way adults can and there are tons of studies showing how even TV on in the background distracts them and sort of overstimulates them at the same time. Their little brains can't do all that ours can and TV does affect them differently than it does us.
Again, I'm a huge fan of TV, we have ours on ALL THE TIME, but for arguments sake....it can potentially screw wioth a kid.
I agree. DS watches way too much tv right now but I still think it's bad.

What's her name on FB?
She posted that awful article about the daycare person kicking a sleeping toddler.

Would sharing her name be sharing personal info that shouldn't be shared? I guess, can you give us a hint on her posts so we can spot her? I also don't know who she is.

Ahh didn't even think of that. But saw the hint, I'll check.

But the counter argument is that for every one person who gets pregnant with an IUD there are hundreds that get pregnant with condoms or oral birth control. If it's not for you that's totally cool. And most of the people who have them imbed have coexisting factors (allergy, sensitivity, or infection exposure) that make them less than ideal candidates in the first time.

Lurkers - I agree, it's totally weird that some have been following our board for an entire year, know all the inside jokes and stories, but have just now decided to participate. If you know everyone's stories and inside jokes, you'd think they would feel comfortable participating earlier? Strange. I have a feeling that within a few weeks some/most might start to quiet down a bit. I am going to miss the entertainment of the random drive bys though.
BC - I hate BC. I've only tried the pill, and had no bad reactions, I just hate remembering to take it. I also hate condoms, but I guess I'll just deal. FFTC - we haven't had sex yet. I know some other people have mentioned this, but by the time 10/11pm rolls around, and I just spent the last hour and half in the bedroom switching DD from boob to boob to get her to sleep, I just want to go to bed and not be touched. I think we'll have to do it during the day when we're not so exhausted.
TV Watching - are you all talking about your babies watching TV or your toddlers? I always feel so guilty because, if we're home the TV is on. But we live in a really expensive city, so right now we live in an apartment. It's not like we have all these different rooms we can go into to play and do stuff. I know I could shut the TV off, but I don't. I feel (in our case anyway) we're going to try and limit it once DD is more into the toddler years, but right now I'm trying not to be too concerned about it.
My UO is I use all the crutches out there with DD, and right now I don't care. I nurse her to sleep, rock her if she wakes up, she uses a soothie etc. All things I never thought I would do, but when it comes down to it, it's either I deal with a really fussy, cranky, overtired baby ... OR I get her to fall asleep. I'll choose sleep every time. I'm a little worried it's going to make things difficult in the long run; I guess I just give in way too easily when she's lying there and doesn't soothe herself to sleep.

I am very fiesty today. Sorry you were on the receiving end @pnwlover2. You can put whatever you want in your ute as long as you don't ask for my help taking it back out later.

Thank you for this! I had mine put in last week and was freaking out at the mention of horror stories. My IUD is for Endo treatment, so I really don't have a lot of options. I can at least refrain from looking up the horror stories now and torturing myself

I didn't think it was fiesty at all! This is what UO is all about.

I don't know that this is as much as UO as an early FFC, but the TV conversation made me think of it... I'm totally using our baby as a way to change DH's habits that I don't like. I can't stand that when he comes home, the TV gets turned on and is on all day. So I keep saying it's bad for the baby. Oh, and he doesn't eat fruits or vegetables, but I told him he has to when she has to, otherwise he'll be setting a bad example.
Unpopular baby opinion: My DD HAAAAAAAAAATES the swing. Goes ballistic when I put her in it. This makes me sad as it's one less trick to pull out of my hat to entertain her. Did I mention that she also hates tummy time and being on her playmat? She does, however, LOVE to be held constantly. Yippee.
