Does anyone's LO have a lot of trouble falling asleep away from home? We are at my parents tonight and LO had a very hard time falling asleep. I did the exact same bedtime routine we do at home. I think she was just so interested in her new surroundings and she knew we were all downstairs so she was "missing the fun." At first, I got her after she cried for 15 minutes and brought her down with us then tried again. Then she cried for 40 before finally falling asleep. She doesn't cry at bedtime at home, but I didn't know what else to do. I feel so badly :-( What do you do when LO had trouble falling asleep away from home?
Yes, LO does not sleep as well when we are on vacation. Try to stick to the same bedtime routine, but also go with the flow. Let her stay up longer if you know she really isn't going to sleep. It will be ok for the night and there is no point in pushing it.

So far it hasn't been too big of a problem - we bring his lovelies & stuff from home. But it's been a couple of months now since we've traveled so we'll see how this weekend at my aunts goes.
Oh and I always bring his music - he sleeps with baby Einstein Mozart or whatever every night so at least wherever we are sounds like his house.
DD has slept away from her crib a bunch of times over the past few months. I generally let her stay up ~30 minutes later than her usual bedtime to tucker her out. If I try to put her down at the normal time she'll just cry.
I also make her travel crib look just liker her normal crib - same printed sheet, blanket, lovey. When she sees it she usually reaches for it when it's time for bed.
We have this same problem when away despite same white noise, same pacifiers and stuffed animals. Next time I'll try putting her down later, that is a good idea. And it's definitely getting a little worse every time as she becomes older.
LO generally does OK but doesn't sleep quite as well. Doesn't sleep in as much, sometimes has a MOTN wake up. But mostly, it takes him a little longer to fall asleep. Or a lot longer? Last wknd in California it took him 3 hours!!! No crying in that time. Just playing in the crib, having a ball!
Thanks everyone. I think I'll try to put her to bed a little later tonight. She slept fine all night and woke up at her normal time. She just did not want to go to sleep!
katka512, I wonder if it's also a function of age. It's seems like at least once a week for the past 3 weeks our LO takes a bit longer to fall asleep. He has also, as of this week, learned how to shake his head NO and MEANT it. So when we say "let's go to bed" he actually shakes his head NO! It's hilarious.
I put LO to bed last night at her usual time - 8pm. I always check on her before going to bed - 9:15-9:30. Last night went to check and she was sitting up in her crib playing with her lovey. she looked at me grinned then laid down again. She as asleep when I checked on her again at 10.
Could be! But I think right now for her, it's being in a new place because she has been sleeping perfectly fine at home. She wouldn't nap at my in laws last weekend either. Little girl just can't miss the action! Haha Makes me wonder what our upcoming vacations will be like...
