We are planning to have a party at The Home Depot. You can have a birthday party for free in a big room there. It includes a project of your choice that the kids build and they give the kids little hard hats and Home Depot aprons. All the parent has to do is bring any desired decorations and food. JA loves tools and "building" so I think he will love it! We will invite out friends who have kids he likes to play with and our immediate family.

We are having a Thomas party. The extent to my Thomas theme is plates, cups, napkins, invites and cake. We are ordering pizza and having salad, fruit and cake. We are having an evening party so I am hoping it is nice and the couple kids who come can play in the pool and sandbox.
He's holding a caterpillar in the picture, and it's just so him. And all free to make thanks to free iphone apps and perhaps a couple work resources for printing it big. Shhh
It is a box with holes cut out. Each hole is covered with tissue paper and you punch though to get your prize(s) I thought it was lame at first, but thinking about a bunch of 3 year olds and a pinata is just a recipe for disaster.
Our group of kids vary in age from Avery up to 12. When we do piñatas we go youngest to oldest so it always gets broken. Although last year DH's nephew broke the stick so we did the pull strings. The older kids are really good about letting the little ones get stuff first.

Very cool idea for the toddler crowd! Will need to file that in my idea box. Thanks!
I'm not planning a party yet and really hadn't even thought about one. Usually we just have a small get together with family that lives close by. i do know that my dad's family will all be up here around the 4th so maybe I'll do something small then. She really only has one friend from DC that's a year younger.
Otherwise I was just thinking of having a get together and grilling out. We'll probably have to have it at my parent's house. Or worst case I might just have it at Pizza Ranch ( a pizza buffet) and just bring a cake. We'll see how I feel closer to it, lol
The weekend of her actual birthday we might as a family go to the zoo or something. That's what we did last year for both V and Hanna's bday. We might hit up a kiddie amusement park in IA that looked like it had a lot of kiddie rides for her.
If you go to the amusement park maybe we could meet you there!
@ nursedesi, which one are you referring to? I was thinking of Arnold's Park? Are you close to there? For some reason I thought you were further South.

Oh I hadn't heard of that one! I was assuming adventureland in Des Moines.

We are doing an early party at the end of this month.
Its going to be Hello Kitty themed (I'm dying a little inside), and one of the teachers from the company I work for is going to do a music "class" for the kids. They'll get to sing, dance, and play instruments. We have the community pool literally across the street from our house, so we're doing the party in the clubhouse and the kids can just walk downstairs and go swimming later if they want.
I keep saying I'm not into huge parties, but this sort of fell in my lap and I didn't have to pay for much. Plus, when she's bigger she won't want mom & dad hanging out with her while she has her slumber party, so I'll milk this while i can.
Also, Michael's Crafts does kids parties for $50. You get the room and a supervisor-type, and they kids do whatever crafts you've picked out for them. You bring cake and all that, and the staff cleans up.
Because glitter and frosting are NOT something I want to deal with.
