Hey ladies! It was suggested to me that I start a thread for photos of our new little babies! I know we will have more arrivals soon....I'm getting SO excited to see all your little munchkins!!
We got sneak peeks of Tinsley's newborn photos!!! They turned out very nicely. I'm so pleased! Here's two of my favorites! I'll most likely post the rest eventually, lol

SO refused to let the hospital take her NB pictures "because I can do it myself." Well. Okay. Since he is trying to start his own business. Ha. She looks way more white than she is in this picture.
When did you do the newborn photos, and where (at the hospital, home, etc)? When are you "supposed" to get the pictures taken during the newborn stage? This is something I have given zero thought to, but should probably start thinking more about it.
They asked in the hospital but SO took ours at home. No idea when you are suppose to. Never thought about til they asked at the hospital.

A photographer friend of mine who took DDs newborn shots said that she preferred to do them within one week of birth to really capture the true newborn look, whatever that means.

I've taken newborn pics for a number of family and friends (little side business). Usually taking the pics within the first ten days is deal. From what I had read, around 7-10 days, the baby will start stretching legs out entirely and you get less of the balled-up-smooshy-baby newborn shots. It really all depends what kinds of pics you are planning on taking TBH. We're doing 'lifestyle' pics when he comes, so it wont really matter

I'm a newborn photographer and recommend within the first 10 days, mostly because that's when babies are still really sleepy and more content lying around posing than crying to be held. In DD's case, she was super alert and cluster feeding after that point. Still cute photos, but a lot more patience involved in getting them!
Also gilder40, and missjenniebean, I can't even handle all of this cuteness. You are making us all even more excited to snuggle our newborns!!

baytosa2013, Try to take the photos in a room with big windows for nice natural light. I always start when baby has a full belly, and the warmer the room, the better! Patience is key. I also have an app on my phone called Sound Sleeper, which I use not only for photos, but for daily life with a newborn... some babies love the white noise.
I think sugarkissed does this for a living, so she may be best to answer here. If I had tips, it would be the below
- Lighting is important, so a room with lots of it (if you don't have a lighting kit - which, why would you?). You'll want to try and be careful of shadows if there is only one light source (ie. a singular window). - If you're going to take nudie pics, remember baby needs to be WARM. So, stripping LO down in your air conditioned house to take these pics will result in an unhappy baby. That will make pics impossible. - I find it's good to take pics when baby has a full belly because they tend to sleep more soundly (a white noise machine will also help with this). - Be prepared to be peed/pooped on if you're going diaper free. - Have any 'props'/headbands/blankets etc. that you want to use handy so that you dont have to walk away from wee one. - Use things (nursing pillow, bean bag chair, even rolled up receiving blanket) under your blanket & baby to help prop them up. Sometimes you lose their wee little face when its smushed down too far.
Relax It may take a while, but try a bunch of poses. My shoots are usually a few hours, so just be patient because baby will need to cooperate!

I'd wondered why that was. Thanks for the clarification - the smooshed phase really doesn't matter to me.

With DS we let them do them in the hospital because the shoot is free and you aren't obligated to purchase. You can always have your own photographer do another shoot after you get home too.
The photographer I used had a heating pad turned on low underneath the blankets. Helped little one get all cozy on the Boppy. She used that to help support her head. Tins was a hair over 3 weeks old when we had her photos done. But that was due to her NICU stay. She was super stretchy, and it took some patience to get her to stay balled up. Those long arms and legs wanted to be out!!

Such gorgeous little babies! Well done and congratulations. It literally blows my mind that they were inside you a few hours ago (and I have one inside me right now!) x
