I've been offering DD a sippy cup with water when she has solids which she LOVES and I've been limiting it to 4oz a day, total. I checked with her pedi at her 9 month appointment and he said she should really only be having about 3oz a day so today I sent that much to daycare. They asked me to send in an extra gallon of water to keep there because she has been drinking all of her water during breakfast and seems thirsty during lunch. Does this mean she needs more BM instead? Should I be sending an extra bottle? She winds up having her 2nd bottle of the day about 45 minutes after lunch and she always drinks the whole thing.
I too was told water wasn't needed but could put an ounce or two in sippy to get her to start drinking out of one.
You could provide larger bottles if necessary if her usual amount isn't enough or another bottle.
I bring 3 bottles in daycare and she usually only takes 2, one mid-morning, one mid-afternoon. Once in while she'll have the 3rd before I pick her up which is later than she normally is. Sometimes she's just extra thirsty but if it becomes a regular thing or she's thirsty sooner, I'd go up another ounce.

I provide about two ounces in a sippy cup with every meal. He probably doesn't even drink an ounce, but he's practicing with the cup (we use the toddler cup that's to teach how to drink out of a regular cup instead of the traditional sippy). He's been losing interest in formula tremendously lately, and my pedi said a bit of water in the sippy is nbd.

How many ounces are in each bottle? And how long is she there for?

Our ped says to give a little water in a sippy cup with meals just to get him used to the cup. My kid doesn't get it though, he just chews on the sippy cup and babbles up a storm.

I give her her sippy halfway thru a meal to give her a lil flush out than take it away and give a lil more after. She probably doesn't get more than an ounce. My ped hasn't said anything about water but I have also never asked
We have 4oz of water in a sippy cup that she gets with breakfast and lunch at daycare then dinner at home. It takes all week and she doesn't even finish it.
She does get a little water if we are at the park or hiking but I don't know how much because she takes sips from my water bottle (and spills most of it).
My pediatrician didn't say anything about water so I'm just winging it. Im not worried about 4oz over a week.
At the 6 month checkup, our pedi said LO could have # of ounces = months in age with solids. He learned how to suck from a straw right away, but he pretty much just sucks it in and then spits it out like he's practicing to be in a fountain.
You might need to go with bigger bottles. I think Rodney was doing 8oz bottles at this point. The main source of nutrition (food and drink both) should still be formula. We don't do water until 1 as per pedi.
I know bottles should be bigger with formula but DD is still breasfed & getting pumped bottles at work so I thought 3 4oz bottles over the 8 hours she is there would be enough. But now I'm not sure. The pedi I saw the other day is in today so I'm hoping to talk to him later. Thanks for the responses ladies!
