Well twins turned into triplets.. Can I join?

Hey ladies,
 I am 6w3d and just found out yesterday that instead of the twins we saw on our u/s at around 4.5 weeks we are now expecting TRIPLETS.

Yesterday they started the u/s and my ovaries are still huge and then the doctor seriously jumped and stopped. THERE ARE THREE BABIES!!!! I am expecting triplets! Apparently the third baby is measuring 2 days behind the others and wasn't there at our 4w u/s. I am beyond shocked and freaked out. I was super excited about twins and had everything planned out. Now I'm beyond stressed and overwhelmed. Triplets!!! With that said the RE did say that since it was measuring a bit behind it could become a vanishing triplet. Anyhow to the rest of the u/s. Baby A is measuring 5w5d and did have a slow heartbeat of 40 but the RE said for where it is measuring he was surprised there was one at all. Baby B is measuring 6w and had a heartbeat of 108 and baby C is measuring 6w1d and heartbeat of 102! We are soo excited and DH cried when he got to hear it and see the babies. We are worried of course about the high risk side of this and what it means for my health but am trying to take it day by day. The RE did mention he would recommend stopping working at 20w and would be surprised if I made it to 30w pregnant before they were born. Oh and NO MORE SEX! Needless to say it was a overwhelming appt.

I see my RE one more time for another u/s next week to check on Baby A and determine if it is still a triplet pregnancy or if it is a twin pregnancy. Then I see my MFM on the 22nd to start my care with them. 

I have been lurking this board for awhile but figured I should intro since I will definitely be needing all the help and info from people who have already done this!

Yes, having any HB this early us hit or miss so anything is good That must have been a shock! Congrats, I hope that things go well.

Fwiw, I have saw some triplet moms go to 35w with no NICU. I've also seen bed rest and lots of NICU time. You never know, better to prepare for the worst but hope for the best. Hopefully things will be fairly uneventful for you!

Congrats! I know the news of multiples at all can be quite a shock, and feel overwhelming. I swear all I heard was buzzing after the dr said "two babies". Just try to take deep breaths and you will find your way.

Note that this is a question of curiosity, not judgement, based on what other people's experiences seem to have been with triplet pregnancies. Did the doctor not bring up selective reduction right away? It seems like that happens pretty often.

Thanks everyone! I am very excited to be here and of course overwhelmed but I was told I would never have children after my cancer diagnosis and after 8 months with the RE, we are not only pregnant but pregnant with triplets. I know that God has to have a plan in it all and I am trusting that He has to know what He is doing!

anotherdreamer,thank you for the reassurance about the heartbeats as well as the previous triplet pregnancies that you have seen. I would love to be a mom that carried to 35 weeks with no issues but also acknowledge that it might be the opposite. Thank you for your input!

nomnom, no need to explain. I do not get offended easily at all! You can ask anything you want. My RE and MFM have not mentioned selective reduction at all to me or DH. They are both very aware of our religious beliefs, as we were even a little unsure about doing IUI's. I think that since they know how we feel about it they haven't brought it up to us out of respect. But that is just a guess.. I might be shocked to hear my RE mention it to me at the next u/s if Baby A is continuing to grow.

I was at high risk for preterm birth due to my cervix, but still made it to 37 weeks, had no NICU, and good birthweights. I credit a lot of the advice I got in this book. Good luck!!

If you're looking for lots of protein in your calories, I'd also suggest Muscle Milk. It's one of the most highly regarded protein supplements for weight lifters. However, it does use sucralose as the primary sweetener (or Stevia in the organic version). Ensure uses a mix of sugar (the third ingredient after water and corn maltodextrin, a stabilizer, sweetener, and thickener) and sucralose. The pre-made protein drinks tend to have a smoother texture than those mixed from a powder.

EAS is another decent brand if something like muscle milk doesn't sit well digestively.

Thanks for the advice ladies. I do drink protein shakes now. But to be honest have barely been eating much of anything right now due to MS. I am hoping in the next fews weeks that my appetite comes back because I know all three babies need a lot more than what I am eating. nomnom, I love cheese. Last weekend I stopped at my favorite little Mexican restaurant and ordered a huge thing of cheese dip and two orders of home made corn tortillas. I was in heaven and DH thought I lost my mind while I sat there and ate it and watched The Backup Plan. So yes cheese it totally in my very limited good to go food list.

snd1231 I did almost the same thing in 1st tri--a plate of chicken burritos covered in cheese sauce with more cheese sauce on the side. Real cheese (instead of the dip stuff) became somewhat of a mainstay in my diet since it has discernable nutrition.

Congrats and welcome! You're going to love the life of a mom of multiples! It's natural to feel scared and overwhelmed by the news of more than one baby, but trust me, you'll find ways to make it work once they are here and you get to know their personalities. (And I wish you very laid back babies!)

@twinstars, thank you. It took about a week to wrap my mind around twins and now its been a week since finding out it was triplets and I am finally starting to feel excited and I know that we can do it. I am excited and ready to see the baby monsters tomorrow at my u/s.
