I'm just about finished with American Sniper. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I'll finish, digest, then posts thoughts. I've read just about every recent SEAL book out there. I think Lone Survivor was my favorite of them all.
Next up is All the Light We Cannot See followed by The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay.

I downloaded it, but haven't gotten to start on it yet. Hopefully on this next flight I'll get a chance to.
I'm like you, I've read almost every SEAL book that has come out recently, I liked American Sniper better than Lone Survivor, not discounting Lone Survivor at all, but I think Chris Kyle just did a better job telling his stories.

I did a decent amount of reading about Kyle prior to checking out the book. I think as a read it is pretty decent. My hangs are the back and forth in his writing about being humble yet clearly narcissistic (it was a little distracting) And 2) the fact some parts have a decent amount of evidence supporting the notion they are completely fabricated. Most notably the alleged brawl with Ventura. There are also other reports outside the book of him making things up...shooting looters from the top of the Super Dome during Katrina.
I struggle with the fact he did some crazy/amazing stuff so why make things up? All the political stuff aside, dude was amazing at his job, the way his life ended was a tragedy no matter what he had done with his life SEAL sniper or otherwise, but just telling his story straight would have been enough. Why embellish? Normally I'd say ok it's a memoir...that happens, but then don't harp humility and honesty. The problem I had with it was that his firmly stated values were not the way in which he told his story.
Don't let my being a girl dissuade you, my book & movie choices tend more toward "dude-ly".
Damn...I was pretty sure we took that sign down when we left TD. ::looks for crowbar::
Thanks for the suggestions. I've heard of Pot Shards. I'll have to add it to my list. I'll read pretty much anything and the occasional Sci-Fi helps to break up my usual historical fiction, memoir/autobiography picks. Nathan Lowell sounds familiar. I'll have to google his stuff. Any idea when the third "Passage" trilogy book comes out? Again, I'll have to google.
I won't hold you being a girl with "dude-ly" movie/book choices against you if you don't hold it against me for being a guy with some "girly" movie/book choices.
I might be? Never heard of it. I was talking books the other day and Pot Shards was quickly mention. I have heard of it, but that's really all I can say about it.
Just googled No Agenda and am totally going to check out the podcasts. Thanks for the tip.
The podcast can take a bit of getting used to, there's a few in-jokes, and you have to realize that the hosts really are "equal opportunity offenders". The jingles are fun though, and the media analysis is usually spot on.
Edit: The guy that wrote "Pot Shards" is the uncle of one of the hosts of the podcast, Adam Curry, who also used to be a VJ for MTV a long time ago.
