Happy almost weekend!

What do y'all have planned?

This is another one of those crazy-jam-packed weekends for us, which I think may be a running theme this summer. Ughhh.

Saturday: Haircut, lunch with a friend, another friend's graduation party.

Sunday: Interview two babysitters (zomg i can't believe I have to find a stranger to leave my baby with), work a graduation ceremony.

My hubs is also on call, but, uh ... hopefully they won't call him

We have a pretty busy weekend too!

Tonight: Skype date with my "nieces" (kids I used to babysit for 4 years before we moved, they're basically like family) then if we're offline early enough game night with some friends here

Saturday: neighborhood progressive dinner

Sunday: cast party for the play I worked on that just closed

I simplified my life a bit by volunteering to bring the same dish to both Saturday and Sunday's parties so I just have to double one recipe instead of making different things. It better be a good one!

toratoratori, I hope your H doesn't get called! Also, GL with the sitters...it's hard but there are a lot of great caregivers out there.
bonzo2012, this might be a stupid question but what is a progressive dinner?

We've got a busy one coming up, too. Tomorrow is my SIL's baby shower and after that we'll be driving down to Newport to visit a friend who is on the east coast for the weekend. Then Sunday we are going to the first birthday party of our good friends' one-year-old twins! Should be fun...just busy.

dashook, not a stupid question, the last one in the neighborhood was the first time we had heard of it too. I wasn't sure if it was a regional thing, a generational thing, or just made up!

The way it works is one house hosts appetizers, then we split up into smaller groups for dinner at maybe 4 different houses, then meet up again at a different house for dessert. Those who are not hosting in their homes are assigned to bring different dishes, like this time we're bringing an appetizer and beer to the appetizer house.

It's a fun way to get to know everyone in the neighborhood. I think our neighborhood does it roughly quarterly, and maybe about 40-50 people involved each time.

Ooops, it's Sunday already! Yesterday I was a bridesmaid in a wedding and was gone pretty much all day. I had to be at the bride's house for hair and make up at 6am!

Today I am just hanging out at home and going to SIL's for a bit to watch her kids...

That was a busy weekend! And somehow DH and I got talked into volunteering to be dinner hosts for the next neighborhood dinner in the fall. I guess I'll finally have to start working on the dining room, and get dining room chairs!

dashook, I was wondering the same thing about bonzo2012's progressive dinner! That sounds awesome, though. It's a great way to meet your neighbors *and* you get to snoop in people's houses

The wedding was at noon and we had to leave for the venue by 10:00am. There were 5 girls plus the flower girl getting hair and makeup done. The bride paid for everything and had breakfast catered so I couldn't complain too much.

I've decided to decline if anyone else asks me to be in their wedding from now on. It's just too much time and money.

I don't blame you. My brother's wedding is going to be my first and last I'll be in (besides if my sister and her fiance ever decide to actually get married). I've already paid $100 for a dress I won't wear again, DH has to get his tux, the wedding is 3 hours away, I'm making the cake. Oh and I'll have a 17 month old to wrangle. It's too much.

Lol. Tell me about it. I offered to make the cake before I knew I was in it. I don't mind too much though as I love doing it. I do mind that she wants us bridesmaids, her mom, and my mom to make the stuff for a taco bar the night before the wedding. I could go on and on about this wedding...

No. You get to be exempted from taco duty if you're already on cake duty. That's some bullshit.

lecky11, I agree with toratoratori, you should be exempt from taco duty if you're baking the cake! It sounds like they're asking a lot of "volunteer" labor of the wedding party.

I chalk it up to her & all of her friends being 24 and not having a clue about how some things should go. Not saying all 24 year olds are clueless, but in this case they are.
