Ok, so I was hesitant to post this because it will make me the biggest AWs of the AWs being that I posted my own version of DD's birth story. I also didn't know if this story is funnier/more loving if you know us/our sense of humour, or if it's genuinely as well written as I think it is.
But I have to do it, because what I say of the birth is the basic, it was fast, she's here, I did it, things are awesome, I'm in love. And then H, who does not utilize social media more than once or twice a year, decided he wanted his version to be out there. And I love it, I laughed and cried huge tears my way through it, and have gotten tons of comments and messages sent to us about how awesome/fresh it is reading it from the husband's point of view. So I will take my chances and be the biggest AW there is, and I strongly urge you to find out from your husbands their version as well!
I have just edited names/locations. I am also not offended if you decide you don't want to read about me again, haha.
When we found out that Tiffbot was pregnant, we were both excited and a bit nervous. Excited for the obvious reasons, but mostly nervous because of how early DS was.
Tiffbot had a relatively good pregnancy. Some tough times, some surreal days. As she approached her 33rd week, it became a little hectic. But the goal was to make it to the next week. Which she did!
We had a few other milestones to make. Like when Tiffbot's doctor said she was going to be gone during her 36th week but was concerned that little DD (unknown to us at the time was measuring large and low so Tiffbot should get checked out while her doctor was gone... ok, a bit concerning. So that was a tough week. But we made it through that week.
After that, I had a few work trips that we had to make it through, a pre-school graduation... and we made it through all of that all the way to 39 weeks!
The last milestone we needed to make it through was... lunch on Boss's day on June 2nd! I was getting steak, and I really love lunch. So, we made it through that as well. After that, DD could come at any time
So, on June 4th, at about 3:00am Tiffbot woke up feeling 'uncomfortable'. For anyone that has been 39 weeks pregnant I am sure that doesn't narrow too much down for you... Anyway, she finally decides to wake me up at 3:30. She says she is having a contraction (which we both thought was a Tony Braxton). <--my note-H refuses to call Braxton Hicks by their real name for no known reason other than he's h
Either way, she is pretty uncomfortable and asks me to rub her back. Now she says 'I think I am having back labour'. Well, I know that means the baby is trying to Houdini, so I start going into overdrive.
'Is it time!? Should we leave!? Oh we should call your mom. Should I call someone to come over until your mom gets here!?'
Tiffbot just plays it off. 'No, lets just see what happens...'. Another contraction with aggressive back rubbing. I'm starting to sweat.
She goes to the bathroom in which I decide is an opportune time to get dressed. So I toss on some jeans to say that I mean business and we should get going.
I Google how long between contractions until you should go to the hospital. Good ol' Google saves the day and says when they are 6 minutes apart and lasting 60 seconds for about an hour. then you should go. Remember we are 40 minutes out of the city.
So I download an app and time her contractions. Under 6 minutes and over a minute long... I finally get her to call her mom who quickly jumps into her vehicle and heads our way (20 minutes away...). In the meantime, get our ducks in a row.
Tiffbot's mom shows up, and Tiffbot calmly says good bye. I finally get her into the car and take off. She says 'Don't speed, we don't need to get pulled over right now.'. And I am thinking 'Ya, I know, but you have a baby coming and in my mind we are too late already'.
So, crafty as I am I sneak up to 130km/h... she didn't even realize . Around the town 20 minutes out of the city I notice she has 3 contractions in 10 minutes... now I sneak up to 140.
Finally get to the hospital, get rockstar parking right in front of the hospital doors in a 90 minute drop off zone: 'Perfect, I will run you up, come back down, park, then get back up there'. We get to the doors - locked with a note that says they open at 7am. Ok, so we walk around to the emergency doors (walking felt good for Tiffbot, I'm not a monster. Plus I hate walking).
We get through the doors of emergency and a bunch of nurses are sitting around (nice to see emergency not busy). A male nurse, young guy, looks at Tiffbot and says 'Is this that related?' referring to Tiffbot's belly. 'Looks like you know where you are going!'.
So we head up to the Labour and Delivery and get checked in. A nurse comes and gets Tiffbot and I sit and do paperwork. Finally I talk myself out of the paperwork and make my way into Tiffbot's room. I tell her, I am going to go park the car. She says 'Just stay for a bit, I feel another contraction'. Boom, water breaks (good thing I creeped up to 130!).
A nurse comes and tells Tiffbot that we have a birthing room ready (great! Never got one with DS) then immediately goes to the girl whose labour just started advancing on the other side of the curtain and says there are no more rooms available (good thing I creeped up to 140!).
So they promptly move us and get everything set up. Tiffbot requests an epidural which should be here soon. Cool.
Contractions get a bit more intense. We can hear people saying that Tiffbot's doc is on the way but she lives out of town and will be about 40 minutes.
Nurses keep asking Tiffbot how big DS was and how early he was. 'Wow, that is big for that early... and you are over 39 weeks now? This baby will be bigger'. In which I reply to my pregnant wife about to go through a painful enough process 'Don't listen to her, it won't be that big...'.
Anyway, epidural guy shows up, gets Tiffbot to sit up and says don't move. A contraction comes so the guy can't do anything and a nurse says 'If you feel the need to push, tell us'. Well this contraction was the most painful for her and she said she needs to push. See ya epidural guy.
So, now we are surrounded by an amazing team of nurses and one fresh resident talking us through this process. At one point DD's heartbeat starts dropping and a nurse says to the doc 'tickle the baby's head' in which the doc says 'huh? tickle it's head?'. Heck even I knew you were supposed to do that! But this guy was great! Fresh, but a pro.
Anyway, Tiffbot's doctor shows up right after the baby gets out and pulled off to the side to get cleaned up. We don't know what the sex is at this point even. Doc says to Tiffbot, it looks like you have a beautiful baby girl! #boom #mindblown #rockedmyworld. Amazing.
Check the clock and the scale. Lou.isa Ju.ne Lastname came into the world on June 4th at 6:56 am weighing in at 9lb 4oz.
What did I learn? 4 hours of labour is not very long and if we go through this again we will be in the car a little sooner than this time. I will not be delivering my own kid... that would be bad.
