Now that their are so many outside babies I wanted to reach out to all the June mommies to make sure you are rotating their heads when they are sleeping. The first 8 weeks are critical for this because they aren't very mobile and have the softest heads. This means if they are in the rock n play, car seat, bouncer,crib etc make sure sometimes their head is facing left, facing right, facing forward, facing semi left etc you probably get it right?
This info is now in most take home hospital papers and pediatrician papers but when we had DS their was no mention. He ended up having plagiocephaly by his 2 month pedi appointment ( meaning the back of one side of his head was flat) Looking back on it so many of the photos we took of him as a newborn all had his head angled down and to the right we just never noticed. The pedi told us it is especially common in large newborn boys that sleep a lot for the first 3 weeks after birth.
He wore a helmet from 3 months-4 1/2 months and now has a round head, but if I could have just avoided it by simply rotating his head early on then it would have saved us a lot of time, dr appointments, money and physical therapy appointments to correct it later.
I know it's a tough time and it's hard enough to get them to sleep anyway but it's just one extra thing to do.
