sweetsurprise oh no! What happened, did you lose power?
WSS. So bummed for you! Don't get me wrong, I'm counting down to freedom from nursing, but it sucks that you lost so much! I basically never use my stash. I wish I could share!
sweetsurprise oh no! What happened, did you lose power?
I did lose power during the flood but I thought I had saved the frozen stash by transporting them to a neighbors. They still seemed frozen but alas they are all gross.

Sigh. My supply has fallen big time and I've been considering weaning anyways. I also found out my entire stash of like 100 frozen milk bags went bad so I bought my first bin 'o formula. It is really sad.
Low supply isn't necessarily a sign that you need to wean completely...you could always combo feed...

This is what I'm considering. I am really struggling to keep up.

Hi lads. I already threw out almost half my frozen stash that went bad. I took a pic this morning of the remaining ones I still have to throw out. It's been so hard to actually toss it since it represents so much pumping time and all the emotions that go with it.
So.
Here's my GBCS (good bye cruel stash).
Bye stash. I'm going to miss the comfort of knowing you're there in case I need you. I'm sorry you're going to waste. I kind of mourn that this represents impending weaning of some variety.

sweetsurprise that is so impressive! Tears are totally warranted. Farewell stash, you will be missed. BTW: my piddly little stash of a week's worth is now down to about 18 oz. and yesterday I poured 2 oz. down the drain because I thawed it and didn't end up using it.

So dd has refused the breast since Saturday. She's also refusing her paci and bottles. She'll only drink from her sippy cup. I'm thinking this is something going on with her mouth that sucking bothers it. Either residual from HFM or from teething. The longer she goes without nursing the more I'm worried she'll decide she just likes sippy cup instead and that we'll be done with BF. I'm not sure I want to start EPing at this point. I'm bummed about the possibility she's done nursing. I'm certainly not mentally prepared. And maybe I'm jumping the gun. Anyone with similar experience? Or any suggestions on how to get her to take breast again? She seems like she wants to nurse sometimes and will put her mouth to my nipple, but then cries and pulls away.

My heart seriously breaks for you. No advice other than to keep offering and hugs! Do you have access to a LC? If so, I would visit them and ask for help. I don't know if maybe there is something you can use to help with the pain for her.

Since I've been an EPer for 8 months I don't have much advice to give you just hugs. I think the LC idea is great. Even if it's just a phone call. Those ladies are amazing. Keep us posted.
Thanks ladies. I appreciate the support. I hadn't considered quitting BF until she's at least one - so she's certainly throwing me for a loop.
I did email a local LC, as per your advice kellrr, who had some reassuring words as well as a few ideas to try. I think I'll take her to the pedi tomorrow to make sure nothing else is going on, like an ear infection. I'm going to keep trying to offer the breast. I really hope she comes around.
jellykat2, I really don't have any advice other than what's already been recommend so I'm just offering hugs and support. I'm so very sorry that you're going through this, it's just heartbreaking.
She finally nursed!!!! You guys I almost cried. It must have been fear of pain after her hand foot and mouth. She had just finished a sippy cup of milk and then cautiously nursed for a few seconds from each side and then clapped. It was awesome. Hopefully she continues to nurse well. Thanks for the support and well wishes ladies.

Awww....she must feel so much better. It must be a little scary to be a baby and feel pain when trying to eat.

Thanks. It's weird because she ate all through being sick and only started to refuse once she seemed better. It was a rough week for sure. Glad to be on the up!
What does bf and pumping look like after the age of one? I have a couple months to go but I'm really curious how to make the transition. I know whole milk after one is what most kids transition to but do I still send breastmilk to daycare?

most moms stop pumping
most moms stop sending breastmilk to daycare, baby just gets whole milk at daycare and nurses when home in the morning and night, and weekends.

DS's doctor gave the ok to start giving small amounts of WCM at 11 months.
I also plan to be done pumping by 1 year. In a few weeks I'm going to start cutting back from my current 3 pump sessions and top off bottles with my freezer stash.
sabby2, with DS1, we mixed WCM with formula to get him used to the transition and eventually moved him to 100% WCM. (I weaned him at 10 months). With DS2 I'm still nursing but plan to do something similar with BM and WCM when he turns one. I definitely plan to start cutting back my pumping sessions at work once he turns one.
At my daycare, DS2 can only move up to the next room if he isn't on bottles anymore so that's also another transition to think about when he's one.
Curious how many oz of breastmilk are your babe's taking while at daycare? DD eats solids twice there but still goes through milk like crazy and I can't keep up and my frozen stash is almost gone.

DS typically takes 5 oz pumped bottles at 6am, 10, 2, 6, 8:30pm. I usually have to combine 1 bottle a day with formula since I'm not keeping up.

How much formula do you mix with breastmilk? Do you mix the formula with water first and then add the breastmilk? I have no clue about formula feeding because.. FTM and we've only ever breastfed.

I think the amount you mix depends on your goal with mixing. Are you trying to transition or just supplement. I mixed them 50/50 to get her used to formula. Once she was used to the taste I ether gave her BM or formula instead of mixing because I didn't want to dump BM if she didn't drink the mixed bottles.
For mixing them i made a two ounce formula bottle and added two ounces of BM. Just seemed easier that way.

I do 3oz formula and 2 oz bm. I usually try to do it first thing in the morning so I will know he will eat all 5 oz so I don't have to dump any. Sometimes if my supply is down or DS has been hungrier I do two bottles with the 3/2 combo.
