DS typically takes 5 oz pumped bottles at 6am, 10, 2, 6, 8:30pm. I usually have to combine 1 bottle a day with formula since I'm not keeping up.
How much formula do you mix with breastmilk? Do you mix the formula with water first and then add the breastmilk? I have no clue about formula feeding because.. FTM and we've only ever breastfed.
Sorry forgot to answer your other question. Yes, I mix the powder formula with filtered water (per the instructions) and shake it (like a Polaroid picture) and then add the bm. I refrigerate it and mark the outside of the bottle with blue tape so DH and I know which one has formula in it.
I had been sending 3 bottles of 4.5-5oz each (14-15oz total). My pump output has gone down and DS is eating 2 purées at daycare, so I just scaled back to 3 4 oz bottles and he seems to be ok.
FYI, my pediatrician told me I can introduce a few oz of WCM a day starting at 11 months. So in a few weeks I'll see if DS will take that as a supplement.

I feel like my LO is lacking in drinking BM when I'm gone. Today he had 7-8 oz. I nursed him at 6 and got home at 5. He gets 2 oz yogurt for breakfast then 2 oz homemade veggie or fruit purée at lunch with some water and puffs. He then nursed twice after dinner. But he still wakes up about 3 times overnight.
For those of you who, unfortunately, have had freezer milk go bad - was it super obvious? I have milk from January and February that has been in the deep freeze and I'm questioning if it's bad or not. I honestly am unsure. I have smelled and tasted it and still can't decide. How did you know for sure?

When my milk was bad, it would taste ok and then like 5 seconds later I'd have an awful aftertaste like bad cheese or milk. If it doesn't taste off, you are probably fine. I will caution you that regardless of age, once thawed, if I don't use it all, it isn't good even 8 hours later. Not sure why but I don't get 24 hours.

Ugh, that's how a bunch of mine seems. It's probably bad. I think dds going to have to go to formula during the day until we transition to WCM, and I'll just nurse morning and night. I hope my supply will maintain for that.
I did try giving dd formula today to see if I need to mix it for her to get used to it, and she gulped it down without a problem. That's reassuring at least.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Ugh.
Hugs mama! As gross as it is, keep trying them. (Keep water handy to rinse your mouth!) It's weird, some of mine are fine, and others are just not at all ok. I used milk today from April that was in the regular freezer, and it was fine. Did you mean that "once you thaw, just a few hours to use?" If so, consider making the bottles in the AM. It's a pain when you are in a rush, but today I put them in warm water while I ate cereal, and they were thawed enough to dump into bottles quickly before I left. I have mixed formula a few times to supplement, and it's always fine. My big thing is we have 2 months to go and we're sooooooo close and yet, paying $100+ per month on formula would suck at this point.

Solidarity on this too. I think I have enough frozen milk to get us through daycare for September but I'm not 100% sure that all of it is still good. My recent drop in supply is pretty dramatic. This morning I only got 2oz so I'm kind of freaking out about it. Daycare supplies formula and DD was fine with it when she tried it the other day so she may have to get some when she's there. I do plan on trying the mixing WCM with BM thing and see how she likes it but I only want to use fresh milk for that. I don't feel great about any of it but it is what it is I guess. I can't believe I'm having these issues when we're so close to a year, it's so frustrating. Sigh.

Hugs. It is frustrating. Daycare also supplies formula, so it's nice we wouldn't have to buy it for that. I am pretty sure I have enough good milk to get us through days during the weekends at least. So hopefully we wouldn't have to buy much formula. But I'm worried my supply won't keep up with mornings and nights when I drop all our day sessions. I really enjoy those feedings, and am super not ready for them to be done. Plus, I feel like my supply is tanking right now too. Today dd nursed and it seemed like a good feeding, but she was still kind of fussy after that. I offered her the formula shortly after and she sucked down 3 oz and then was more content. Like you said, it is what it is - but I'm pretty sure it's the reason I've been drinking so much lately too.

With mine, it tasted like rotten milk right off the bat. Like, it made me gag. So I would say just sip it and see how it tastes. I'm not sure about the aftertaste.
Hmmm. I'm guessing that will subside as your supply drops in response (that's what the ladies who have weaned say) but if it's really painful, you could pump just a couple minutes to relieve the pressure without likely affecting your overall weaning/pumping reduction plan.

This may be a better question for the breastfeeding board, but thought I would throw it out here too:
As I start work I'm going to wean dd so that I only nurse morning and nigh without pumping during the day. I also intend to continue past one year, for a while anyways. Does anyone know if on weekends I might still be able to breastfeed during the day? Like, since supply is established now - would I have enough for her to nurse when she doesn't during the week? And, would it mess with my supple for the week then, meaning I would have problems feeling too full? I feel like maybe this is a dumb question. But - FTM yo.

FTM as well, so take this with a grain of salt. From what I've read, once you get to this point (~1 year) your breasts are mostly making milk on demand. If you nurse at a time you usually wouldn't, your breasts will make milk, but it may take awhile to get a letdown. I see many women on the extended breastfeeding thread on the BF board that nurse more frequently on the weekends.
I have heard some women note that if they nurse more frequently on the weekend, they are engorged during the day when they go back to work on Monday. If you find that happening, you may want to try to limit extra nursing sessions on the weekend to only 1 or 2 more times than usual.

Thanks so much!
I'm still engorged during the day yet, since this is my first week cutting day sessions. I think I'll wait to let her nurse on weekends if she wants until I'm no longer feeling full during the week. Hopefully in another week or two we should be to that point.
I'm down to 3 5 minute pumps this week and all of the sudden, my happiness to wean has turned into this weird sadness. I hate Bfing emotions.
I was realizing I'm still super hormonal because of BF. Certain smells still are weird and I'm crazy emotional. I know weaning will be hard. My mom mentioned that I can keep BF evenings and mornings after 1 year, but I actually don't think I want to. I want my body back.
I can't decide what I want to do. Part of me is so done with BFing but I'm also not totally ready to quit. I probably will continue to BF in the morning and evenings for a while...but I agree, I want my body back. I'm beyond ready to quit pumping though!

Now that I'm only nursing morning and night I know I'm not ready to give that up yet. I can tell dd is certainly not ready, and I still really enjoy my time with her during these sessions. One thing for sure is it certainly is an emotional ride.
I'm so glad I looked at these last few posts. This is exactly how I feel too. Want to nurse mornings and evenings and get rid of pumping. I have no frozen stash so I don't know what to do about that. Will dd still take milk that's not wcm during the day past one year?
I have so many feels about weaning. I too am in the part of me wants to be all the way done but not completely ready yet.
For those of you still BFing in the morning and evening, what are you doing throughout the day when you're home? Do you still BF those days or give bottles or what? I still am but I'm starting to wonder if I should give it up as we get closer to weaning.
