Season 1 is on Netflix. It was the rage when I lived in Seattle. It's kind of like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. You're following a Miss Ives who was best friends with Mina (Bram Stoker's Dracula), Mina's father who was a hunter in Africa, Dr. Frankenstein, and Josh Hartnett's character who is an American Werewolf in England. You have Frankenstein's monster who is crazy. His bride (who is new this season played by Billie Piper aka Rose Tyler) and Dorian Grey. It takes place in London during the Penny Dreadful publications.
I do like how the 4 (seemingly) main characters have already interacted in some form. I would have been really irritated if their story lines didn't intersect until halfway through the season.
Yeah definitely- I was wondering how they would all fit together. I am not gonna lie I was very confused during most of it, but I did like it. I just may need to watch it again...

Agreed. I was confused also but I think that was the point. The first season was pretty confusing at first, too. They like keeping us on our toes lol.

That's true! Hopefully this season lives up to last one

Do not think it's his kid at all. And he is a fucking asshole. I felt so bad for him with the custody in the beginning and now I'm all fuck you, you don't deserve to see him!
Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who was totally confused (titania, helloerrbody)! I'm jumping in after not having seen the first season of True Detective, so I don't have anything to compare it to.
I like the feel of the show but I had no idea what was going on most of the time. I'm sure everything will become more clear as the season progresses.

If it is like the first season you will totally be hooked. You should watch the first season too if you get the chance. The acting was incredible.

Factoid: One of my best friends lives in LA and her husband worked filmography on the show this season. He says that Colin Farrell is super nice but that Vince Vaughn is a raging asshole.

Doesn't surprise me.
Anyone else having trouble taking Vince seriously? I'm not used to him in serious roles.

Alright, I'm calling it. I think Vince's character had something to do with colins characters wife's beating/abduction situation. So he could have a cop in his back pocket or something.
I like it so far, the characters seem intriguing enough to watch. At first I though it was too choppy, but I guess they needed to show what they were all about before they all meet up with each other.
I loved it! Very confusing, as I expected and would be disappointed if otherwise. I LOVED the first season so am not sure if it can meet my expectations but we shall see. I would not characterize/place judgement on any of the main characters after one episode. The development as the season progresses should show how one / first impressions are not accurate and do not tell the whole story of an individual. The intricate details of each person and their past experiences deeply affects how I think of them, for me it is a beautiful/tragic way of interpreting everyday life how we (society in general) judge people based on one situation when having the whole story is imperative to understanding the full character of an individual.
Penny Dreadful... meh it's ok I lost interest about half way through first season no particular reason except it just didn't hold my interest.
I'm also curious as to who Colin Farrell's ex is. If she's a ginger, maybe there's a teeny tiny chance that's his kid.
Agreed. I half expected the picture to be of a flaming redhead, but that would have been too easy and predictable, so I am glad it is still a bit ambiguous.
It was good. I will probably have to watch it again too. I like how they connected everyone in the he final scene. Vince Vaughn as a crime boss is going to be hard to get used to.
Has anyone seen the trailers? They seem to make it look like Colin Farrel's character black outs and can't remember what he was doing or where he was. There was a movie like that too.
