I'm not throwing M a birthday party - she's 2 today
Happy birthday!!!
We didn't have one either. I actually spoke with a bunch of daycare parents last week (at a birthday party) and none of them had thrown parties. I think it is way more common on PB or TD than in real life.
Yup, we didn't either. Dinner at her favorite Mexican restaurant then cupcakes at home with the family Maybe next year, but ONLY if she asks for one! <-------- not a big fan of parties
I started to watch Forged in Fire with MH last night because I knew he'd be into it and then I could go watch something else. I ended up watching the whole thing and getting a show and tell of MH's knife collection. Watching bearded blacksmiths make swords was kind of amazing. Now I want MH to forge something.
We threw a birthday party for LO really so we'd have an excuse to meet more of the parent's in the Toddler Room. We haven't had a lot of opportunities to socialize with other parents of 2yos, so it's nice to chat with them in an informal setting. We weren't going to have one (apart from having the ILs over for cupcakes), but DH really wanted to this year.
I'd say at least a third if not more of the parents in LO's class have had parties. And those are only the ones that we've been invited to!
The OINTB theme song annoys me. I like Regina Spektor but that song is just grating AF.
I don't hate it but I hate that it's so long. They have a perfect spot to where they could have ended it but then they start playing the music again. It's annoying.

I feel like it would not be too bad if I didn't have to listen to it every episode when I'm binge watching... but as it is I'm always telling it to shut up and fast forwarding through.
Everyone I know does birthday parties. I felt guilty that I didn't invite more friends/extended family to DD's party because we've been invited to most of theirs.

Everyone here does birthday parties as well but it's kept pretty low key. Generally just an excuse to start up the grill and hang out with family.
Which I guess sounds like a drag if you don't like your family but it's generally just as much about the adults relaxing and having a good time as the kids.
DD is just now getting interested in TV and requested Elmo. I don't want to introduce DD to the concept that she can watch pretty much anything on demand. We don't have cable or DVR to begin with, but we can stream stuff from YouTube. I just tell her Elmo isn't on and try to get her involved in something else.
And Florida has 2 hockey teams! It's winter there for like a week... and places like ND where it's basically winter all the time doesn't have one!
Those cities wouldn't have more then one team if there wasn't enough money to support them. It's all about markets and money.
I've always wondered how that works in Florida with the NHL. Whenever I see a Canadian team play in Florida the stands are literally half empty. Games in Toronto sell out weeks in advance even though ticket are twice, sometimes three times as much. It seems like they could be making a lot more money elsewhere.

I think they could be supported elsewhere now, but moving a proteam is almost impossible. Example Oakland Raiders. With the NFl and the MLB the more successful teams subsidize the less successful teams.
But if for example you moved the Mets, and some or most of the fan base moves to the Yankees, wouldn't ticket prices be driven up, due to supply and demand issues?
thelorax, trust me as someone who lives in the big empty space I hear about it all the time from DH (who wishes we had a baseball team closer) , but most of the country's population does live on one coast or the other so the map is skewed to where the people are. There are less people in the entire state of Idaho then in the greater Indianapolis area.

We've often wondered the same thing. For a long time my ILs could go to a Coyotes game, buy ridiculously cheap tickets at the door and get a pile of free stuff just for showing up. (Ftr, I don't think that is the case anymore. Stands have been pretty full the last few times we have gone) Cheap seats aren't even a thing in Edmonton (worst team in the league, almost) because they still sell out most games. And like sympkin said, Toronto is the same. i get that you need some major sponsors too, but you would have to think there would be a better market for teams like that.
I do not think it's an invasion of privacy to look at my child's phone/social media accounts (in the future, of course). I like to think I will inform them about when and why I am looking at their accounts rather than sneaking around.
I do think it's an invasion of privacy to look at my spouse' phone/social media accounts without asking. However, when he betrayed my trust a couple of years ago I asked if I could see in order to ease my mind. I think the key point is asking rather than snooping.
If you do have a cash bar I feel like that should be noted on the invite. I never carry cash and went to one wedding where they charged for water (I think that was a screw up by the venue.)

I always assume that it's a cash bar
+1 but it's very common here. Most people invite 500 people to their wedding and then have open bar from 3-7 and cash bar 7-midnight. Several locations won't even let you have open bar all night. People drink too much here.
