As far as open/cash bars go... Around here it's become pretty standard to have a loonie or toonie bar. Guests pay $1-2 per alcoholic beverage. Most weddings I have been to the money collected for drinks goes to some charitable fund but having people pay a bit generally reduces a lot of waste (drinks getting left 1/2 full on random tables and dumped, etc). Water and non-alcoholic beverages are always free as well as wine (sometimes all night, sometimes just at dinner). The odd couple uses the money collected to pay for the bar tab, but most give it away to something like the fire dept or a charity that is important to them. It is always stated on the invite though.

We had a cash bar, but also had a couple of margarita machines that didn't cost the guests. If they wanted beer/wine, that was cash. Water, tea, lemonade were free.
Just experiencing this one, but I think the whole trend of little girls (like younger than 14) getting manicures and pedicures with their moms is spoiled BS. I earned this shit. And if I had a daughter she can paint her own nails at a sleepover with .99 wet and wild. Not have a grown woman serve her and get her water with her mom's money. It just never happened before this generationband it seems like a bratty trend.

I agree. When i was little i did everything myself. Lee press on nails, tips.... Everything. I still do. I think the last time i had my nails done was for my wedding.
BUT if i had a girl i think it would be something to do as a treat. I wouldnt let her get mani pedis every other week but i think it would be cute as a mommy daughter type outing once in a blue.

I can see myself doing a pedicure maybe once/year (when I usually get mine done anyway - as an end of school year celebration).
Which reminds me...I haven't done it yet!
Eta: costs less than a movie & dinner, and lasts longer!

This is where I am at. Hell, I can't afford my own nail upkeep - I am not paying for my tween to have french tips. However, if she has 8th grade graduation or something I might take her to get a mani/pedi.
My mom let me get acrylics for 8th grade graduation. Thinking back on it, I don't find it appropriate - but that is mainly because I don't like acrylics on myself now.

melohdy I think I was getting acrylics as young as 6th grade. Why oh why did my mom let me do that?? I always paid for them by myself with my own money. But why?? Haha I should not have been getting my nails done that young!
But I also don't like them anymore. I last had them done like that for my wedding. Now when I get my nails done, I get gel paint. But, as a nurse, we aren't allowed to have anything on our nails! Acrylics, gel polish, 99 cent wet n wild polish.... Nada.

My nail place has special mini spa chairs for the littles with butterflies and flowers on them. It's obnoxious.

No sir! I pity the poor future partners who live with these princesses who grow up thinking pampering is a right or necessity of some sort. (Says the wife of a bearded pomade princess)
