I have a question about allergy testing on little guys-how do they do a scratch test? Is it like multiple allergens on a sheet or something that they press onto their skin? I'm a little nervous that it's going to be traumatic for him I saw a little girl getting the little under the skin injections and it was awful. Just wondered what your experience was.
If you Google scratch test and then look at the images, that's pretty much what my kids looked like. They did it on their back so they couldn't get to it and scratch them. H only ever maybe had eight at a time I think. M they did 20 or so. when m was super little, they turned on Mickey and since we didn't have TV he thought it was the greatest thing ever and was really distracted the whole time. Every time we've ever had it done since, I have never got the impression that it hurt too much. I think it was more upsetting to me than it ever was to them. Maybe a little uncomfortable as they got more scratchy but thankfully they clean it off and gave my kids some stuff to help the swelling go down quickly as soon as they saw the results.

Yeah, but you answered. Do they do them individually or a group at a time? And it's literally a scratch?
I just made his appt for Feb 10. I'm nervous for him so I wanted to have some idea what was going on.
Btw we saw the GI last week. It was so weird having a conversation with someone who actually said the words "milk protein intolerance" and "life trumps tests."
He also said that the estrogenic worry with soy isn't real.

Elaborate. I don't have to keep worrying about this?
And yes, all at once. And like I said, depending on how many and how severe the allergies are it can look pretty awful, but neither of my kids has ever thought much of it past the initial little scratch. And they've had it done a few times each

Do you mean you weren't worried or you don't have to worry anymore? People worry about soymilk bc of estrogenic effects. I don't even know details bc I haven't looked. I had heard about this like almost 15 years ago and researched it then and evidently came to the conclusion that it was fine, bc I drank it then, but apparently I forgot about that and did no research now when I heard about it again, I just looked for alternative milk sources. I should look around again but I'm so damn tired of researching every damn thing. He said not to change until after the allergy testing anyway.

Btw I don't know how you do it. I keep panicking when I'm eating bc I have that moment of "crap I can't eat this!" And then I can't remember if I can't eat it bc of J, bc of me, or bc I'm pregnant. Then J and the pregnancy like blur together and then I'm very confused.
Because I do worry about it. I quit giving it to the boys because of the estrogen. But it's so much more readily available for us that I'd like to not freak out if that's what I grab sometimes.

I only eat bananas, homemade cookie dough, and maples truffles and then I know I'm safe. Seriously, I'm pretty sure that's all I've eaten today

Oh my gosh, butting in, but take entertainment! Our allergist was not as cool as SAK's and I was stuck with a very bored 1 year old in an exam room for over 2 hours. Even videos on my phone got old after that long, and I didn't have enough snacks either.
