Alternative for Norma Katherine

DH reallllllly want to use the name Norma Katherine, after his grandmother. I respect that he wants to honor her but I really don't like the Norma or Katherine. My first name is Katelyn and to me, Katherine is just too similar. Norma is well, Norma. I just really can't see having a daughter with that name. What alternatives can you come up with? I'm at a loss.

Veto it. You should love the name as well, and if you don't, the name is out.

I do like Catherine, but if that's too close to your name for you, maybe use a variant? Catriona (ka-TREE-na ), Kathleen, Caterina, or Carina would be gorgeous.

I'd suggest finding a first name you both love and using Katherine (or Norma, but Katherine sounds good with most names) as a middle. Katelyn is related to Katherine so it could be a nod to you too.

Veto the hell out of Norma. I love Catriona as an alternative to Katherine.

Another vote for Nora, if you want something similar. And I really like Katherine, much better than Katelyn IMO.

Otherwise, go for something else you like. Also you don't have to use both names. You could pick a name you love and use Nora/Norma or Katherine as the middle name.

I think you can honor her without using her exact name. Why not use one or the other in the middle name spot?

I think you should compromise on Katherine, and throw Norma far away. Nora Katherine is nice though.

If he wants to name her after his grandma...well quite frankly, Norah (or any other name) isn't Norma. You can't just pretend it still means something. I would talk to him about dedicating the middle name to her.
