I don't get kids in shopping areas or restaurants without socks and or a pair of shoes. I've seen kids walking, i don't think the parents would do the same.
My kid sat down in the middle of the waiting room at the pedis office and took off her shoes because we were "inside". And I sighed and put them in the diaper bag and carried on. Not worth the fight. Honestly. Also has happened at the grocery store, a restaurant, and other places. As long as her feet aren't touching food or something I don't bother. She isn't allowed to walk barefoot (more because I'm worried she will hurt her feet). So if she wants to get down and walk shoes go back on.
Agreed, I just think of the germs and things that touch the ground and floor. But yes put the shoes when walking. My son would take off his shoes and socks anywhere but I wouldn't let him down to walk. Ive seen kids walking in public places and I cringe.

This reminds me of teaching kindergarteners on the first day of school. Inevitably there's a kid who takes off his shoes before sitting on the rug as if he's in his own living room, lol.

From today's adventure: I think I don't like lakes. I mean, they're pretty and all, and maybe they're fun to boat on? But as a beach substitute, no bueno. The one we went to today stunk like poop and the water was incredibly murky. I like my water chlorinated and clear.

I'm very picky about lakes, and all beaches in general. Now that we are getting crazy hot summers I love to go to the crystal clear lakes in the mountains. Jasper has 2 lakes with nice beaches, and they are very pretty, glacier fed lakes. Cold, but much warmer than they used to be. And when it's 30 C the kids warm up fast when they get out. Going to the lake 10 min from our house where everyone and their dog owns a cabin? No thanks. It's disgusting. I've never found the Okanagan lakes to be too icky either. We mostly boat there, but I saw this the other day and definitely want to check it out with our niece and nephew. And our own kids when they are a bit older
Apparently they've had it next to one of the beaches in Kelowna for a few years, but just opened that one up in Penticton for this summer season (take note megsw85 and germaphobe if you guys are planning to venture out to the Okanagan one of these summers). It's called a Wibit. No clue if that's some kind of a chain that might be set up elsewhere too...
The lake near us that must of our friends frequent is so disgusting. We go on the river a lot, which is the same water because it flows from the lake, but it feels cleaner because it keeps moving.

The lakes along the front range I agree with you. They are nasty. 9news was reporting a 4-5 hour wait to drop your boat in Cherry Creek. I can think of a million things I would rather do than touch that body of water. There are some really awesome ones in the mountains, but man they are cold. We are spending some time this summer at Lake Winnepisaukee and I can't wait! It is awesome and doesn't smell like poop.
This. heelibrarian, you are swimming in the wrong lakes! I grew up with Winnepisaukee and others like it. The lakes in VT/NH are BEAUTIFUL. Hoping upstate NY is similar because we didn't get to do any outdoor swimming in CO...

I can only vouch for Cayuga, but it's beautiful and pretty clean, but very cold!
