I'm terrified of doing my first IM shot tonight

Guise... seriously.  I've given myself a million sub-q shots, but my husband has always done my IM triggers in my butt.  Well, this time around I have to do Del-Estrogen every three days, and H isn't here.  This is ALL on me.  Have any of you done your own butt shots?  Any tips?  I watched a really good Youtube video on it, but I'm still freaking out.

I just wanted to say good luck! You can do this, you have to. I would be scared too but just ice your butt for about 5 min and you won't feel it.

I haven't done any IM shots yet, but just wanted to say good luck! I know when I did my first couple of sub-q shots it was more the mental part of giving myself a shot that I had to get over. Hopefully once you do it the first time, the next time will be a breeze!

I had to do my own this morning... it's no fun but you can do it! For me, the hardest part is getting the needle in, but i just closed my eyes and pushed (i'm slightly scared of needles). Good luck!

It's just... holy shit, that needle is SO long! Two hours until I do this injection. I have two hours to get over this fear and just do it. Shit.

My H is a SS... I was just Skyping with him, and telling him how scared I am of doing this shot. You know what this fool said to me? "Just call me on Skype when it's time, and make sure you angle the camera right. I need to see the booty." This dude.

@buttmonkey I'm sitting here watching video after video. I got in front of the mirror and tried to get the right angle to do it, but I am also not very bendy. I feel like I can't comfortably get to where I need to get while pulling the skin taut with the other hand.

We were definitely told to draw back on the needle to check for blood. One video I watched, the girl said she was drawing back to check for bubbles, and had her husband looking for bubbles. Another one, the girl almost forgot to switch needles, and then screamed at her husband at the last second that she forgot to change it to the smaller gauge. Oy.

One more hour.... I'll let you guys know how it goes.

I just watched one about doing it in the thigh, which I know is also an option but... there's just something about sticking that needle in my thigh that freaks me out more than discombobulating myself to get it in my butt. I don't really understand what it is. I think I'm actually done watching videos.

Haha!! That's a good idea though, practicing on an orange. Too bad they don't give us a dose or two of something harmless so the husbands can actually practice on themselves so they know what to do. Thankfully H used to work in a medical setting so he knows what he's doing... unfortunately that doesn't help me right now since he's not here for this cycle!

Haven't given myself an IM shot yet, but I psych myself up for self-administered shots by rushing as fast as possible between not even thinking about it and just jamming the thing in...stay distracted while prepping and then inhale sharply as I slam it in, then after the fact think about how a big needle just entered my body. Don't know if that helps in your situation. But good luck, you are so strong to have come this far, you can do it!!

I wouldn't do the thigh.... I've heard it bleeds (and seems way more difficult than the butt). You can totally do this! Check both butt cheeks.... I can't get to the left, but the right is easier. You'll be fine!

Well, it's done... piece of cake! I can't believe I was that freaked out. H tried to turn it into a peep show, so I guess that helped lighten the mood or something. Seriously though, it was easy. I barely felt a thing.

I had to do it myself a few times. I got in front of a large mirror to see what I was doing. You've gotta commit to the shot and it helped to take a deep breath and let it out as I actually stabbed my ass. Go slow with the plunger, if you do it fast it'll be more uncomfortable. My delestrogen doses were small but my PIO doses were much larger. You'll notice a difference. Ice before the shot and use a heating pad after.

Good job!! I chickened out and had my DH do my PIO shots. I can do the sub-q but I was scared to try the IM ones.

Good job! I'm glad it wasn't too bad. DH always asks the nurse at our RE's office to mark me for IM shots. So I walk around with a target on my ass for a couple of hours. He's always scared he won't do it right without the target.

@ketchup Yeah, I was a punk ass bitch for nothing. H was over there helping, telling me "move it over, angle it down a little more, don't forget to draw back a little before you inject." I'm glad he was able to help out even though he's half-way around the world. I figure since he's out there defending our country, the least I can do is show him a little crack.

QuitcherBitchin Glad it went well. I'll be on my own next week while my H is on travel. I'll have to do two injections ? I'm quite nervous about it and planned to do my thigh but now I'm reconsidering reaching the bum.

Seriously, the ice works. I did what vballbaby suggested and I didn't feel a thing. It was amazing!!!!
