DW and the kids (plus dogs) are at her parents for the week. I feel like I should be using this week to do something...like hobby-wise. I don't really have a thing though. What do you all do?
I'll probably go for an extra or extended run this week. Other than that, I'm pretty lame. My current list of possibilities includes cleaning our swamp of a pool, making chilli for a work chilli-off on Friday, seriously contemplating renting a carpet shampoo cleaner thing (yeah...I'm a freakin' party animal) and doing absolutely nothing.
I'm waiting for some books to arrive. Perhaps Thursday I'll have something to do?
Yeah, so... Pool is pretty clean, though I'll be gone this weekend so if that thing turns green again by the time we get back I'm going to be pissed. Lawn mowed, laundry done...well mostly done. I took my uniform off to clean the pool and hung my shirt up on a chair outside. Some jackass bird shit on it, so yeah...need to clean that. Lol. Isn't that good luck or something?
Other than that I haven't done much. No gym, no running. I'm half way through book one of Game of Thrones and a bottle of Hendricks, but am looking forward to Pot Shards getting here this weekend. A little kissed GoT book 1 is the only audio book in the series through Overdrive.
Work has been crazy so I haven't had much time to enjoy my kid free week. Shit! And I'm on-call starting tomorrow. I should grab another drink before my week of abstinence.
My things (right now) are making beer and working on my car... still have a bunch of things to do around the house but if nobody was around my car would be getting some attention.
What kind of beer do you brew? I'm not a beer fan, but I'm very interested in the chemistry and art that goes into the process. I spend a lot of time in the craft beer section selecting new things for my wife to try.
I spend time evaluating craft beer, but choose wine based on how cool the label looks. Lol! I rarely drink either so go figure. I'll take a good bourbon or gin any day.

So far since moving from the craft brew center of the planet (seattle) I've made a Nut brown, a hard cider, an English Red, and have a batch of Honey Brown Ale carbonating right now, thatll be ready when i get home in a few weeks.
Usually if i can see light through it i don't drink it.. but exceptions are made regularly when i find something good... also depends what i'm eating. But i do tend to shy away from real hoppy IPAs. not a fan. but a good double or triple ipa's that have the flavour to match the hops are awesome but hard to find.
My goal was to not have to buy any more after we moved as I wanted to put money other places so I get about 3 cases (4.5 gal) after all is said and done. it keeps me in a good rotation as I'm able to have 1 or two a day the month im home and then have all the bottles empty by the time Im ready to bottle a few days before I go back overseas.
Once i find time to get my basement set up and have a bar so I can start keging it'll be quicker. I have the supplies to ferment 30Gal at a time, but only brewing for personal consumption that's way beyond whats responsible drinking (for only having 4 weeks off). If I new I was gonna have a block party or something I might do a couple batches.
I do have a couple of bottles of ginger whiskey aging in the closet at the moment and have dabbled in the world of flavoring Bourbon and always keep some handy to mix things up.
Nothing beats a glass of Bourbon and a good cigar by the camp fire
My wife is an IPA fan. Yeah way too hoppy. There are a few double IPAs that I actually find tolerable. I wouldn't drink them for enjoyment because they still taste like beer, but it's tolerable. I'll have to look for a triple, perhaps I may find them more than tolerable.
I bought a bottle of "limited edition" rye whiskey...from Mount Vernon. I knew I wasn't a huge fan of Rye Whiskey, but dear God is this stuff awful.
yeah, rye whiskey will usually rip a hole through your throat on it way out the side of your stomach.
I used to frequent a little Italian place that was near our local hockey arena outside Seattle... they took Seagram 7 and steeped it in ginger for a few months. unbelievably smooth with a good flavor...
I tried with a bottle of Bulliet... but after 3 months didn't come out so well... so we'll see what 6 does
