I'm not a fan of the casting. There was so much hype around it and to me, the people they picked are just "meh".
I thought the books were horrendous and it does bother me that they were poorly written. Authors get paid to write so I feel I should expect their writing to be better than average. To each his own, but if I wanted to read sex scenes with shitty writing, I could just read some fan fiction online. Conversely, if I wanted to read well written sex scenes, I'd imagine there is a plethora to choose from.
Not to mention, Ana "flushed" and "bit her lower lip" so often I was starting to think she had some sort of disorder. And lets not forget that he pulled out her tampon. NEVERRRRRRR!

I heard the books were poorly written, so I had no desire to read the book or any desire to see the movie. Not to mention it's not a real depiction of BDSM from my understanding...
I'll probably watch it at home, on demand, rather than in the theatres. Now the real question is, how many people will be getting busy during the screening of the film? You know, back row, dark theatre. I'm just saying...there are going to be a lot of HJ's and BJ's going on.
Thank you for giving me another reason to not want to see it in the theater.

Haha well on the topic of what annoys me about the books it's how often she just came on command. Um, no. It doesn't work that way.

Loved the books! DH and I are going on the 16th to see the movie for a day date. I wish the cast was different, but I will keep an open mind when I see it.

Wait, waaaaaat. Pulled out her tampon? That's something the author could have left out. Nothing says sexy like "pull my string" comments.

The details of her cycle and birth control make up a shocking amount of the story, well past the first book. If she wasn't biting her lip or O-facing on command, there was foil ripping and condoms and a countdown to depo effectiveness. I get embracing safe sex as an important component of contemporary romance novels, but c'mon.

I won't even begin to pretend that the books were well written, but they're smutty sex books. What do people expect? As long as it's not trying to present itself as the next literary classic I have no issue with the writing.
That being said, I've never read more than some excerpts and will not be seeing the movie. I'm saving my movie money for Jurassic World and sexy Chris Pratt.

The fact that you actually made it through all the books puts you way ahead of me though.

I refuse to contribute one cent to that author's income. For so many reasons, not the least of which is that calling her an author is far more than she deserves. I read the first three chapters and nearly poked my eyes out from the three synonyms for red, lip biting, and flushing. Gah!
And as for Ellie Goulding....I love her voice but I hate that she allegedly broke Ed Sheeran's heart. Boo.

I read them because a bookworm friend suggested them so I decided what the hell. They were terribly written. I like the general story line but seriously couldn't get over the sex scenes ever couple of pages. I like me a hot romance book but I got sick of it. I started skipping over them. I am hoping the movie can translate and focus on the story line that the book couldn't. If they had the same amount of sex scenes it would be considered porn
I think I will wait until I have heard from people that have gone to see it. That will help me decide whether I want to see it in the theater or from the red box.

Am I the only one who does not like that song? I heard it on the radio, but had no idea who it was or that it was for the movie. Then I just listened to it again after clicking on the link. I turned it off. I'm not a fan.
I did read the books. Not super obsessed, but I did read them. I do not think I will be going to see it in the theater. I'll probably wait for it to come out On Demand and watch it when DH has to work late or on a weekend. That's when I watched Magic Mike =)
I didn't read the books or have any interest, BUT when I saw the trailer I thought Christian really looks a bit like my H. Clearly others aren't in agreeance, but I think the guy they picked is a fox! So, I'll probably Redbox it at some point.

Nope, I failed on that front. I read the first two on loan from a friend and never read the third because I didn't want to buy it.
Eh, I'm pretty sure I'll be seeing the movie in theaters but I also know the movie isn't a true comparison to the bdsm community. A lot of what's in the book is abuse and isn't consensual sex between Anna and Christian. At one point he ignores her safe word which is a huge no no.
Oh boy. Can't believe I'm about "defend" anything about this series.
Yes, this was not a good representation of the BDSM community, but I remember her only using the safe word once in all three books and he stopped immediately.
I don't care either way, but that's just not how I remember it.
I just can't get it up for Jamie Dornan ::shrug:: horrible casting IMO. The books were good enough. Corny but hey, I still read em. I actually LOVED the ending.
I'll probably get it from Redbox when it comes out; I'm not a big fan of seeing movies in the theaters in the first place let alone being all hot and bothered with some stranger sitting next to me.
On the same note, anyone read the Crossfire series? Sssooooo much hotter.
YYYYYAAAAASSSSSS. I haven't read the latest one yet, have you? But yes I totally agree. I actually just started rereading the series over.

I'll probably go see it. However, I will be going by myself because I will be blushing the whole time. But I've read all of the books, so I'm sort of excited.

I was irrationally annoyed at the library because they had 9 copies of the new one and I was #13 on the wait list, and it still took me over a month to get it! I swear people around here read too damn slow, I can put it away in a day and a half. But yea, I checked it out the day before Christmas, Merry Christmas to me

All of this. I applaud everyone who was able to get through the book. I have a very hard time reading anything that is poorly written and often put books down after just a few pages.

Sorry your erotic novel had too much sex?
Yes I guess it did. I wasn't expecting that much I guess.

My husband was all, "for Valentine's Day why don't we see 50 Shades and go to BGR?" Simple date night sounds like a plan to me.
I read the books and found them enjoyable enough. I mean, I wasn't reading them for their writing prowess or masterful storytelling. As long as the movies steer clear of mentioning Anna's "inner goddess" I think I will be fine.
I'm not a fan of the casting. There was so much hype around it and to me, the people they picked are just "meh".

NOT JUST YOU. So much +1.
It just irritates the fuck out of me that this made millions. There is actual good, real BDSM erotica (and really good fanfic, for that matter. Fuck all I write better sex scenes).
If this is your kink, look for Anne Rice's Sleeping Beauty trilogy. Because it's a fuck of a lot better.
Maybe it's just me, but I can't get hot bothered when I'm shrieking about the idiocy of what I'm reading.
