Anyone that's into the supernatural should check out Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series. It'll remind you briefly of True Blood and then be way better.
I loved this series until the whole storyline just turned into orgy after orgy. There is no plot anymore. The first ten books or so were so good.
This. I haven't read the last 3-4 because of this. It was one of my favorite series. I follow her on Facebook and a lot of the sex and relationships seem to be based on her life.
First book was meh...second was like come on really? Third was starting to feel like the same porn video stuck on replay...likely going to skip the movie.
This but I am going to see the movie with my girlfriends. The books were frustrating to me as a writer, a woman and a human being. Not a fan of some of the bull and the lip biting... enough already!
I did like the character development of Christian but that's the only good thing I can say about it.
The Sleeping Beauty series - I'm no prude but I only made it about 2 chapters... daaaaaaamn!
Ha. It is pure erotica, no doubts about that. I think that may have been half the mass appeal for 50 Shades. You could buy it at Target and didn't feel sheepish or sketchy about it being erotica.

I agree completely. I made it to Harlequin and then stopped. I think that's around book 14/15. It's really too bad as it was such a great series.

P.s. I am a little bit ashamed that I kind of loved it because I told myself I would never read them. I heard they were crap and I am never one to jump on a bandwagon. Damnit.

I think this might apply to quite a large percentage of readers/fans. Well...it certainly applies to me anyway...

Not to mention, Ana "flushed" and "bit her lower lip" so often I was starting to think she had some sort of disorder. And lets not forget that he pulled out her tampon. NEVERRRRRRR!
But, that's just me.
Wasn't there also some line about inner goddess or something like that? That drove me nuts too.

It just irritates the fuck out of me that this made millions. There is actual good, real BDSM erotica (and really good fanfic, for that matter. Fuck all I write better sex scenes).
If this is your kink, look for Anne Rice's Sleeping Beauty trilogy. Because it's a fuck of a lot better.
Maybe it's just me, but I can't get hot bothered when I'm shrieking about the idiocy of what I'm reading.
I wanted to thank you for recommending the Anne Rice books. My husband and I are a little kinky and these books blew our minds. Thank you so much!

I think a lot of people are titillated with the idea of BDSM and playing around with it without understanding what BDSM is/can be. It's a point I've seen in other BDSM writings - clear warnings when fiction and reality part ways, or warnings that this is not for inexperienced users. It's hard to explain that you have to be careful when engaging in BDSM, because researching it seems very clinical and unsexy, but there is real threat for individuals to be hurt inadvertently and for playful, sexual fun to be turned into something really emotionally scary or hurtful.
If you want to try it out, have clearly defined rules in place in advance, have the dominant partner look up what they are doing so they don't accidentally cut off your circulation or dislocate something in bondage and understand physical signs that indicate the need to stop in more physical activity scenarios, and have safe words that are respected.

I think the ones that say no are probably going to see it anyway but won't admit it.
I never read the book, but I do know that it was talked about a lot. I just don't read books. I know a lot of people around me have read it and ads for it are blowing up everywhere. Radio stations are giving away free tickets for the 10th caller and whatnot. I don't feel comfortable watching porn with the general public. I think that would be awkward. And knowing there might be random strangers getting hard nips or popping boners around me makes me a tad bit nauseous.

I will admit I kind of want to see it just because the press tour is going SO badly. The actors apparently hated each other, the process and the film. I find it hilarious, so I sort of want to see just how much of that comes out on screen.

I read all these books after being nagged by my sister (okay, I skimmed the last one because I just couldn't anymore) but I won't be seeing the movies.
It's horribly written. On top of that, it's horribly written fanfiction. I've read better fanfics by teenagers on tumblr. People who say it doesn't relate at all to Twilight are not reading. It's a direct reflection in so many aspects.
I have never dabbled even remotely into the world of BDSM and know that this is a poor representation of a relationship.
Christian Grey is a fucking crazy person. If someone stalked me the way he did Ana in the first book, I would call the cops.
I could go on. Just, ugh. Ugh.
ETA: Despite all that I also just want to mention that casting was terrible. lol
BDSM already has enough stigma as it is, without what this book/movie is bringing to the table. I'm all for all the crazy, hawt sex, but keep the possessive, controlling relationships out of it. More often than not, women in relationships like the book is glamorizing end up in women's shelters.

I will be there! Mainly out of curiosity about how they will translate all the sex stuff into an R rated movie. I am worried it won't be as hot though.
2nd vote for the Crossfire series! I just finished Bared to You and am starting the next ones. So far it's better written, a little more believable and a little more HOT ! (IMO)
Love the song. I just started reading the books again. I read them when they first came out, but I forgot a lot. I'm interested in seeing the movie, but I don't expect it to be nearly as good as the books. The actors are not anything like who I pictured while reading the books.
I can't see a poll but I will probably watch the movie once it's on demand. I never read the books but I worked at Barnes and Noble when the craziness started. I actually remember the very first person that asked about it because no one I worked with had ever heard of it and it was before a big publisher picked it up. She was appalled that we didn't have it but then sure enough within a few weeks it was everywhere.
I like Ellie Goulding a lot. DS thinks she's a real honest to god "princess". I have no fucking clue how he came to that conclusion.
50 shades I embarrassingly like and have on my kindle. The writing is horrible and there's no plot but I love love love me some smut. Love smut like I love wine and spicy food. Mmmm mmm.
Edited because I didn't answer the question: I'll see it when it's out to rent.
So the today show has played a few clips of the movie, and I'm really sad because it looks TERRIBLE. The actors are just so stiff, no chemistry. The dialogue sounds ridiculous.
I mean, I didn't expect it to be Oscar worthy but it looks worse than I even thought.
