Adeline is the correct spelling of this name. It is a diminutive of the French name Adele which, IMO, is a million times more lovely than Adeline. www.behindthename.com/name/adeline
Ha. I hear Riker from Star Trek. Either way it's awful.
DHs uncle is named Ryker after Star Trek. It definitely is NMS but I don't hate it. As far as different/unique names go it definitely isn't the worst.
Not sure if I'm quoting correctly but we named our son Gunnar, as PP mentioned it's a very traditional name and we love it. Family name for us as well.
It's traditional spelling is Gunnar. It runs in my family and my " poor kid" is named Gunnar and we love it. While it may not be common in the US it is very common else where. Not everyone's taste I get it.

I like Gunnar. But only when it's pronounced the correct way.

Gunnar I understand. In fact my BiL is named Gunars, which is the Latvian version, and I think it's a nice name, when it is pronounced GU-nar like it is supposed to be. But naming your child Gunner because you like shooting and hunting (which is what the parents of the kid that I know did) is NMS. I don't mean to offend anyone and their name choices, obviously.
BD and I got into a fight over names recently. Up until the A/S, it was agreed on that I got to pick the girl name since he had a boy name picked without me from day one of knowing I was pregnant. After the A/S when we found out it was a girl, his serious suggestions were Ferrari (because he likes cars) or Arabia (to be unique). Ummmm, only over my dead body.
How to explain there is unique as in uncommon and then there is unique as in wow, it'll be hard for this kid to be taken seriously in life.

Ferrari and Arabia!! I'm dying I actually discussed with FI that you need to look 20 years in the future, when your child is applying for their dream job, career. Or further, could you respect a CEO with your name choices. Maybe try that??

This really makes me want to know what his boy name was!!!

I did try that point, so I have decided to keep a running list and wait until she's here. It's still a sore spot but at this point it should be clear that I'm not backing down. Team green is looking like it would have been great to me right now but what is done is done.

Haha, it was Anthony Samuel last name, III which is fine with me. He hates it along with my favorites because they are "old-fasioned". My current favorite girl name is Rosalind.

Wow, those ones are... interesting, for lack of a better word. The name Arabia reminds me of labia... Maybe mention that to him?

Yeah, we aren't the guns and ammo type. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but thats not our style. His middle name is Wolfgang. People really hate that. Our May baby with be Axel Heinrich. Again not everyone's cup of tea, but I love unique names as long as they aren't made up. We are proud of our heritage and all these names are family names. Again while these names may be uncommon in the US they are very traditional names in northern Europe.

My brother and SIL, (who loooove unique names,) almost named their last little girl Margo Fontaine. SIL's mother told her it sounded like a stripper name from the 50's and that they should reconsider. (Now they don't tell their names beforehand, for which I don't blame them at all!) Their first little girl is named Sunny Rae, which is pretty hippy, but they love it. None of their names are my taste, but oh well.
If we were having a girl my DD wanted her middle name to be Snowflake, because Frozen. Not an issue since she's a preschooler, but DH was actually on board with it. He said he thought it was cute.
I still can't figure out if he was messing with me. We're having a boy.
