Taking one for the team...getting rid of my books

Our guestroom is going to turn into the nursery for our baby due in December. In our guestroom are my bookshelves (and my DH's boxes of books because I have given him no space on the shelves for his books), and we will no longer have room for them. I mostly read e-books and 95% of the books I will probably never read again, and there are only a couple that I haven't read yet. I agreed to only keep what I haven't read and a few of my favorites, basically I have a small shelf on the bottom of my nightstand that I will use for my books. I went through and started boxing everything up to donate to the library. I keep very good care of my books and I know most of them will be greatly appreciated at our library. It is still sad and breaking my heart to see them go. I knew you guys would feel my pain.

I definitely feel your pain. I recently took 3 shelves' worth of books to the used bookstore to trade and sell. I kept only the books by authors I know in real life and my absolute favorites. I used the proceeds to pay bills that we needed help with and to get DD new readers since she is reading more and more. My two shelves look a little forlorn, but I just tell myself that our move will be so much easier with only 1 or 2 small boxes of books to tote.

I feel it alright. There is something comforting about having shelves of books in your home. When I lived by myself in an apartment there were books everywhere. Now, we just don't have room for that. I take comfort in the fact that the library is just a 1/2 mile away and open 7 days a week.

I feel for you. I just had to get rid of two shelves worth of my books to make room for my girls books and it didn't feel good.

Big hugs! When we moved we didn't unpack a lot of our books but I still don't want to let them go.

I know how this feels. When I moved cross country I had to donate about half of my books.

I totally feel your pain. This is why I am lucky to have a classroom. The books that are taking up too much space go straight into the class library.
